Magical little hideaway in a secluded meadow, just over an hour from London

The owners’ 5-acre farm is so idyllic, it’s a favourite for photo shoots. Wild meadows, lush green fields, a pretty orchard next to a quaint farmhouse. And, tucked away in its own field, a fairytale shepherd’s hut, with an adjacent mini hut housing a clawfoot bathtub. No cold showers here – this is a serious luxe version of glamping, worthy of magazine covers in its own right. The white pannelled walls are covered in oversize Swedish bird prints, hand-picked flowers sit in vintage glass vases, and Portmeirion crockery lines a cornflower-blue dresser.
It seems everything about this escape is super elegant… until you sit out in the deckchairs and a friendly goat trots over to say hi, adding a dose of the ridiculous and reminding you of the glorious countryside setting. You’ll see wild rabbits too, even pheasants strolling about – the High Weald is an AONB. Walk to great pubs for supper or do a BBQ on your firepit as the solar lanterns and stars twinkle overhead.
- You’re on the edge of ancient Sapperton Wood and the rolling South Downs. Pack good shoes for beautiful walks, stopping at country pubs for a refuel.
- Bring bikes and hurtle along the Cuckoo Trail.
- Nearby Heathfield has quirky antique shops to browse, or drive to Brighton and Rye for cool independents and a blast of sea air.
- Fill a basket with Italian spoils and Prosecco at local deli Cuculo, and picnic in your private meadow. (Hopefully the goat won’t like Parma ham…)
