Space & setting.

Just wow. This dramatic, design-led beauty juxtaposes cutting-edge style with rural life on a farm, somewhere deep in the gentle contours of Thomas Hardy country. It comes as no surprise that the partners behind it are respectively an architect and furniture aficionado for the likes of Conran and Nordic brand Åben. Minimalistic and modular interiors are softened and warmed with muted corals and blues — including a Verner Panton flowerpot light in sunshine yellow — and a superking bed perches on a mezzanine level. There’s a film projector for rainy days and curated Spotify playlists for every mood. Just wow.

Even the eco credentials of this hut impress. Set in a rewilded patch of land, the corrugated structure harnesses Passivhaus principles and sustainable tech such as a vaporised shower that uses 40% less water. And it’s rural yet not remote, so while it’s heavenly to simply graze on an organic breakfast box then laze in the hot tub watching wild rabbits dart by, just beyond the fields are vineyards, villages and swathes of glorious Jurassic coastline to explore.

Getting here: drive or train to Moreton then taxi (15 mins)

Owners-of-Architects-Hut

“We designed and built our hut by hand during lockdown then partnered with Farmer Giles (yes, really), whose family have run this farm for 100 years. The patch of land where the cabin lies is a re-wilding spot of the farm and provides a rich habitat for wildlife, plus total seclusion for our guests.” Owners Scott and Caroline

My Kip favourites

They love
“Waking up to bird song and opening the electric blinds from the comfort of bed, wondering whether there will be a nosy cow peering through the fence! Stargazing from the hot tub is incredible too; we recently bathed under a Harvest Moon.”

We love
The idea of cooking supper over the fire, using a Dorset recipe from the owners’ chef friend and ingredients from Steeponbill farm shop. Fresh herbs grow just outside the hut’s door.

You may not love
A 2-night minimum stay. Noisy neighbouring geese! Access to the bed is via a ladder. The carpark is 200m away, with a trolley for luggage. Sorry, no pets.

  • "Thank you for creating a slice of heaven on earth and for creating a space that reminded us that it’s the small things in life that make us feel whole. From being woken by the birds to the glorious views, amazing stargazing in the hot tub and glorious bbq. Time slowed down for us and we loved it."

  • "Spending time at the Architects Hut is a rest for the soul. Caroline and Scott, thank you for your imagination, your creativity and for building this patch of heaven for us to enjoy. My recommendations; turn off your phone, live each moment here slowly, start each morning by sitting on the step whilst drinking a cup of tea. I’m leaving this sanctuary with a rested mind and a grateful heart."

  • "We enjoyed every moment of our three day stay at The Architect's Hut. Calm and secluded, it is the perfect place to relax, re-energise and soak in the peaceful beauty of the Dorset countryside. Compact, comfortable and eco-friendly, every requirement has been thoughtfully and neatly integrated into this stylish ‘abode’. We very much look forward to return visits in the not too distant future. Good things come in small packages!!"

Moreton is a small train station so you would need to order the taxi before travelling. However, if you take the train through to Dorchester there is a Taxi rank.

Unfortunately not, as we cannot leave the fire unattended.

They are £7 per bag, generally people use 2-3 bags to heat it.
