Space & setting.

For a wholesome holiday with friends or kids, look no further than this pretty riverside cottage on the Welsh border. The River Wye winds right past the garden, taking centre stage for outdoor play; days can be spent swimming, skimming stones and paddle-boarding – or hire canoes and float all the way to book-lover’s town, Hay-on-Wye. You’ve even got private fishing rights to this part of the river, so keen anglers can cast for salmon and trout in peace.

Away from the water, pick berries from the bushes, bird-watch from the balcony and head off to into the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons for epic walks and mountain biking. Set your summer evenings to a soundtrack of campfire crackle and laughter: marshmallow-toasting around the fire and a gorgeous greenhouse set up for candle-lit suppers. In the colder months, dive into the library of books and board games, cosy up for film afternoons with the pull-down cinema screen, and wander to the local pub, which does a fantastic Sunday roast.

Getting here: it’s best to drive.

Owners of Glasbury River Cottage

“We’ve lived and worked in the area for the past 10 years and since my husband is a mad-keen fly fisherman, he wanted to buy a house with private fishing rights – and this is it! We have spent most of our working lives in hospitality, also running a wedding venue not far from here. The cottage is everything we have learnt guests want and need to relax!” Owner, Jemma

My Kip favourites

She loves
“Sitting on the decking at the back of the house, watching the sunset over the hills and the bats come out at dusk.”

We love
Spending all day outside then having a long soak in the enormous walk-in walk-out shower.

You may not love
The owner’s house is next door, but the cottage is totally private. You’ll need a car to get around.

Everything about this holiday was exactly what we needed to get away from the stresses of life and feel fully relaxed. Thank you Jemma for such a wonderful stay, you truly do have a piece of paradise right here in the UK!"
