Space & setting.

The Meon Valley is home to some of Hampshire’s prettiest villages, all olde thatched cottages and wisteria-clad houses. Circled by countryside, walks and bike rides meander along the River Meon and over golden fields to join the South Downs Way. There are gastro pubs a’plenty, and artisan village stores selling local Exton fizz. It’s a peaceful, under-the-radar area, a slice of perfection.

These vintage-chic cabins hide in the heart of the valley, part of a glampsite spread across a 2500-acre farm. An ode to sustainability, they were handcrafted from reclaimed cedar by their clever owner, and solar energy powers their electricity and hot water. Interiors are beautifully pared-back — soft neutral colours, natural materials — which allow the views centre stage, and each sits in its own field, allowing for total privacy. Lie in bed and watch wild hares leap across the field as the sun comes up, then breakfast outside to a serenade of birdsong. With no WiFi and no neighbours, being here is a total escape.

Getting here: drive, or train to Petersfield then taxi (10 mins)

“I grew up on this farm, and returned here 10 years ago to start my own glamping and camping business. I started renovating and refurbishing vehicles to add to the glamping collection, before starting to build mobile cabins, too, made from reclaimed materials. These were some of my first creations.” Owners Jack and Emily

My Kip favourites

They love
“Sitting out having drinks and a BBQ, watching the sun slowly sink below the horizon.”

We love
“The views from the bed; keep the blinds open and fall asleep gazing at the stars – this is a Dark Sky area.”

You may not love
A 3-night minimum stay over weekends May-Sept. The solar-powered electricity can be temperamental in bad weather.

  • "We had the best time here, was so sad to leave. The cabin is so comfy and stylish, everything you could want and a view that never gets old. Will be back again and again and again and again. Could not rate this place higher!"

Sustainability.

As part of their sustainable building approach, the interior is clad with cedar sourced from the estate and milled locally.

  • The Field Cabins Hampshire
  • There’s an old bus, vintage rice horsebox and safari tent, The Dell, on site; built for guests to enjoy over on the main glampsite (10 mins’ walk), comprising a pizza restaurant, cafe and bar, selling local ales and ciders.
  • Circular walks lead out from the farm, plus you’re only a mile or so from the South Downs Way with its glorious rolling chalk hills.
  • Or cycle the Meon Valley Trail, an 11-mile route along a disused railway track.
  • You can walk to a handful of pubs; Jack recommends ’The No Name’ pub for a pint of local ale and extremely good food.
  • Try fly fishing at Meon Valley Springs (2 miles). You can catch trout for your supper or just opt for catch and release. Lessons and equipment hire available.
  • Petersfield is the closest town, with a farmers’ market every Wednesday and Saturday. Or buy fantastic local meat at Buckinghams Artisan Butchery to sling on the BBQ.
  • Winchester is 20 mins’ drive: incredible period houses and a beautiful cathedral. Portsmouth is a little further, with a historical naval dockyard and day ferries to the Isle of Wight.
