Space & setting.

It was love at first sight for the owners of this light-filled cottage; the first and only property they saw on their search. They spent almost a year meticulously crafting it into the stylish escape it is today, and with a plum location in the heart of Whitstable, it’s absolutely ideal for burnt-out city-dwellers who seek sea air and super-fresh shellfish. Beds are cloud-soft, the Shaker-style kitchen makes self-catering a breeze, and there’s even an outdoor bar washed in oyster shell blue, bringing beach shack vibes to your back garden. Speaking of the beach, you’re just a hop and a skip from the pretty pebble shore with its bright beach huts; morning swims couldn’t be easier.

If you’re coming from London, you can swap smog for sea air in under 2 hours, and sink right into the quirky independent scene here. Eat your way around town, from friendly delis and artisan bakeries to foodie pubs and cool cocktail bars. And if the beachfront gets too crowded at sunset, soak up ‘Golden Hour’ from the sofas at the back of the garden instead, dinner sizzling on the grill.

Getting here: drive, or train to Whitstable and walk.

“Having planned a move out of London during lockdown, I convinced my boyfriend to look at Whitstable. The cottage was literally the only property we saw. We put an offer in on the spot and spent our first summer here raising a litter of 5 Labrador puppies! After that madness came to an end we started on the refurb project. We really wanted to pay homage to the history of the cottage, whilst also giving it a Soho house-style feel.” Owner, Charley

  • "My mum and I had a gorgeous stay at Oyster Cottage. The house is beautifully appointed - a well-stocked kitchen, great honesty bar, and lovely products in the bathroom. It's also incredibly central for exploring Whitstable. Charley was a fantastic host; even when we accidentally locked ourselves out of the cottage, she was extremely helpful in locating a set of spare keys for us. We would love to visit again."

  • "We had a wonderful stay at Oyster cottage over a long weekend in June. We (two couples) had plenty of space in this beautifully designed and well located cottage - walking distance from the train station, beach, cafes and restaurants. Charley was responsive and incredibly helpful - we would highly recommend using this as your base to explore Whitstable."

  • "Thank you for allowing us to use your beautiful cottage as a base in Whitstable to celebrate the end of our sons exams, husbands PGCE and our wedding anniversary! We drank a lot of wine in your garden :) The cottage is beautifully thought out and our boys particularly enjoyed the use of your sky. The beds are so comfy, but if I stayed in Summer again i'd bring an eye mask. Thank you again."

  • "A wonderful stay at Oyster cottage to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary - with our two little ones in tow. Thanks for your great recommendations - we enjoyed our lunch at Farm and Harper, great coffee from Blueprint and Larder and tasty fish and chips from VC Jones (+ lunch bites from Rulus!). We also enjoyed a Lebanese feast at the cottage on our anniversary courtesy of a meal kit - so the fully stocked kitchen was well used and appreciated. Drinks in the sun in the garden topped off an amazing getaway. Thank you for sharing your gorgeous cottage with us - every fixture, fitting and item is gorgeous and well thought out - and the beds are so comfy! We'll be back!"

  • "Staying at Oyster Cottage was a delight. So much thought and care is evident in the way the house is presented. It’s cosy and stylish. The kitchen is thoughtfully appointed and the garden was perfect for a glass of wine in the sunshine. The cottage is just five minutes from the sea but tucked away on a quiet road. Ideal in a town that can become so busy during the summer. The owner passed on thoughtful recommendations that helped us plan perfect days. Would recommend staying here and will look forward to coming back again"

  • "My partner and I were really looking forward to spending a long bank holiday weekend by the sea with our dog, and Oyster Cottage was the perfect hideaway for it. We were welcomed with a hamper of treats from the local deli, and Charley made sure we had all the details and recommendations we needed about the cottage and Whitstable before we arrived. The weather was beautiful so we spent a lot of time in the garden, which our dog also thoroughly approved of. We ate very well during our stay, thanks to the many seafood and bar recommendations and enjoyed cozying up on the comfy sofa under the electric blanket after walks on the beach. The cottage had everything we could have needed to make us enjoy our time and indulge in a weekend of treats and comfort. We would absolutely return to Oyster Cottage!"
