Eco conscious

Space & setting.

A derelict farm that hadn’t been lived on for 15 years might not sound like the setting of a love story, but the owners of these extraordinary cabins fell head over heels with the views here, and thus embarked on a thoughtful regenerative project. They rewilded 12 acres of former pasture land, then immersed their handbuilt cabins in a wildflower meadow, with alfresco tubs perfectly placed to soak up those sweeping panoramas.

Inspired by the lakeside structures found in America, with a minimalist Scandi influence on the interiors, the unique A-frame design is cosy, intimate and romantic. There’s a giant mezzanine-level bed, organic cotton sheets and everything you could need for a lazy stay: local coffee, firepits, total peace. But if you can drag yourself away, adventures on the North Yorkshire Moors beckon: hiking, swimming, mountain biking and more.

Getting here: you’ll need to drive

“As Rich grew up in this area, together with Sophie they decided to move back to North Yorkshire in 2019 to raise their kids in the beautiful countryside. We love the simple beauty of an A-Frame cabin, and ours are utterly unique. Together with our architects we designed the structures and our very talented team of joiners handcrafted them in situ. Every aspect of them was thought out to maximise the views.” Owners, Sophie and Rich

  • "We truly loved our stay. The cabin was beautifully finished and extremely comfortable. It is clear that a lot of time and thought has gone into perfecting the space. A very generous welcome basket greeted us upon arrival along with all of the necessities. The deck and outdoor seating areas are great but the showstopper is of course the sunken outdoor bath which we thoroughly enjoyed. The location is perfect and the glass fronted A frame cabins have gorgeous views of miles of Yorkshire farmland. There is plenty to see and do in the surrounding towns and Rich and Sophie provided local recommendations which were really useful."

  • "Amazing stay! Rich & Sophie are so lovely and on hand if you need anything. The cabins are gorgeous, the interior is beautiful and although we typically stay in hotels, we loved our stay here - it felt so relaxing and peaceful. Definitely recommend if you are looking for a romantic stay off the grid."

“We’ve planted hundreds of native trees, and allowed acres of land to rewild, which has expanded the natural habitats of numerous species, including bats, badgers and buzzards. Since starting, we’ve seen a huge increase in wildlife, especially protected birds of prey. We now see barn owls hunting at dusk on a daily basis.”

  • From Whitby, walk along the golden stretch to Sandsend Beach and time it with low tide for rockpooling.
  • Reward yourself with a slap-up lunch at The Fish Cottage: garlicky prawns, crab fritters, native oysters and fish tacos all score highly
  • Runswick Bay is lovely too, a former fishing village with a long sandy beach, paddleboards to hire and wild seals if you’re lucky.
  • Hire bikes to cycle through the Great Yorkshire Forest at Dalby, or hike across Great North York Moors National Park.
  • Excellent restaurants are a short drive or taxi away. We’d recommend The Blacksmith Arms in Lastingham, and Michelin-starred The Star Inn in Harome. For the best cakes, head to Graze on the Green in Rosedale.
  • Bridgerton fans will recognise the historic house of Castle Howard, where much of the Regency drama was filmed.
