The very best places to stay in Yorkshire

Yorkshire isn’t just a place; it’s a feeling. A bit wild, undeniably beautiful, and endlessly surprising. From the sprawling hills of the Dales to the rugged York Moors, buzzy York and seaside villages clinging to the cliffs of the North, this is a region that invites you to dig deeper, to find the stories tucked away in every stone and stream.

We’ve handpicked the kind of stays that help you connect to this land’s raw, unpolished beauty. Whether you’re after a secluded cabin for a romantic stay, a beautiful base for walking, or an amazing big rental for a group, ours are places with real soul.

Kip tips:
· Architecture: a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, York Minster is one of the largest cathedrals in Northern Europe, with towering spires, intricate stained-glass windows, and a soaring nave. Climb its tower for panoramic views over the city. We also love Salt Mills (a former textile mill, now a Unesco site) and Fountains Abbey (one of the best-preserved Cistercian monasteries in the country, with elegant water gardens).
· Must-visit: Haworth Fell is a network of wild, heather-covered hills and moor, surrounding the village of Haworth in West Yorkshire. This rugged landscape was immortalised by the Brontë sisters’ work —Charlotte, Emily, and Anne – and you can visit their former home, now a museum. Walk up to Top Withens, too; a lonely, ruinous farmhouse with sweeping views of the misty moors, thought to be inspiration for Wuthering Heights.
· With kids: Dalby Forest is a dream for families with its miles of family-friendly trails, an adventure playground, and the chance to explore the forest by bike, foot, or even on horseback. Harry Potter fans will love a trip to The Shambles, a medieval gem with narrow, overhanging buildings that tilt towards each other, thought to be the inspiration for Diagon Alley
· Foodie treat: The Star Inn in Harome. This Michelin-starred pub has been serving up local produce for years, but the real star is the Yorkshire Blue—a rich, tangy cheese you can only find here.
· Best activity: climb Malham Cove: This stunning limestone cliff isn’t just a beautiful sight—it’s an incredible place to hike. You’ll be rewarded with panoramic views over the valley below.
· Secret Kip tip: The Farndale Daffodil Walk in spring is magical, with wild daffodils carpeting the valley floor in a sea of yellow (part of the North York Moors)
