Farm stays have become something people travel for: eggs gathered for breakfast, huge open skies, the sound of sheep across a field, a glass of wine made from grapes grown metres from your bed. Across the UK, working farms are opening their gates – regenerative farms in the Devon hills, Welsh smallholdings, working vineyards, cider orchards heavy with fruit – each inviting you into the rhythm of the place rather than a costume version of it. These are the UK farm stays we’d book ourselves. Don’t worry though – nobody’s going to hand you a spade.
