“The cottages were created to offer a truly refined, boutique-style retreat in a beautiful rural setting. As an interior designer, I saw the potential to transform what had been traditional rental properties for decades into something far more considered and special. Each cottage underwent a complete and meticulous renovation, with every element thoughtfully redesigned rather than simply updated.” Owner, Stephanie
She loves
“The peace and tranquility of the historic Cottesbrooke Estate. Surrounded by parkland and nature, the gorgeous open views change with the seasons. It’s a place where time naturally slows.”
We love
The wider location; just an hour from London, and close to loads of major road networks and 2 mainline train stations it’s ideal for family and friend meet-ups and weekend breaks.
You may not love
No pub in the village – but that’s why it’s so blissfully quiet. None of the beds in Figgy can be twinned.
Surrounds.
- Visit Cottesbrooke Hall, said to be the house on which Jane Austen based Mansfield Park. There’s a copy of the novel in each cottage.
- Go on long countryside rambles across the estate and through ancient woodland, or bring bikes and zip to nearby villages.
- Pick up supplies from a local farm shop and whip up a feast on the Green Egg BBQ; there’s a shared barn with alfresco seating. Or book Stephanie’s recommended chef to whip up a feast for you!
- Head to Pitsford Reservoir for lakeside walks, sailing, cycling trails and SUP adventures. Rutland Water is a little further, offering similar.
- Recommended foodie pubs include The White Horse at Welton (exquisite tapas); The King’s Head at Spratton for bistro dining; The Red Lion at Thornby for traditional pub grub. The Althorp Coaching Inn is an ancient pub that has been open since the 1600s and often has live bands.
- Day trip to Market Harborough, a beautiful market town with interesting boutiques and restaurants. Other lovely market towns in the area (dubbed the Notswolds!) include Uppingham, Oakham and Stamford.
- Althorp House — the childhood home of Lady Di — hosts regular events, including an annual literary festival.
- Adrenaline junkies can go kart at Whilton Locks, and Silverstone is nearby for the Grand Prix in July.
- Bicester Village outlet is an hour’s drive away, with stores by Barbour, Coach, Givenchy and many, many more.
