Tucked away on Scotland’s wild west coast, this Highland croft opens a door to a simpler time. Set on a large working estate, it epitomises the essence of traditional crofting — sustainability, self sufficiency and connection with nature. You’re fully off grid; a proper adventure.
Superb panoramas of the Inner Hebrides stretch for miles — Mull, Kerrera and Lismore — and secluded beaches offer pristine sea for wild swims, kayaking and seal spotting. At nightfall, step into your woodfired outdoor bath with a glass of whisky; the star-studded night skies will blow your mind. Although you could day trip to Oban or the Inner Hebrides, we bet you don’t. The antitode to modern life, those olden day rhythms have never been so appealing. Play board games, read books and light the night with candles and lanterns. An experience you’ll always remember.

The bathroom is accessed from the outdoors. No central heating, electricity or WiFi, and poor phone reception. You’ll need a car to get here, and to reach any shops etc.

- Swim in crystal-clear seas, kayak along the coastline and walk in the hills. The surroundings are magical and you’ll be so happy just here.
- But if you can tear yourself away, Oban – the seafood capital of Scotland – is a 30-min drive away, offering up oysters, mussels and lobster, fresh from the boats.
- From Oban, day trip to the islands of Mull, Lismore, Iona, Coll and Kerrera by ferry. We love Kerrera’s 3.5-hour circular footpath, which winds past a ruined castle and crystal-clear coves. Refuel at the local tearoom before catching the ferry back.
- Or drive to the isle of Seil, linked to the mainland by bridge. Lunch at the Tigh An Truish pub and soak up the stunning views over to Mull.

FAQs.
Yes, up to 2 are welcome (no charge). The garden is secure but pets need to be kept off the bed.
Off grid literally means not connected to mains electricity, so hot water and the kitchen are both powered by gas. Lighting is provided by traditional lanterns and hurricane candles. Heating is provided by the wood-burning stove in the living room. There are renewable energy battery packs.
Yes, theoretically. Connel Ferry is the nearest train station (in Oban), with connections to Glasgow, you can find out more info on Scotrail’s website. The line also connects with the Caledonian Sleeper service, from which onward connections to the croft can be arranged.
