Space & setting.

Lovers of vintage design will adore this cosy hideaway, set in an acre of rambling gardens a short hop from the seaside. Jacobsen, Day, Rietveld; the big names are all here. The Studio may be bijou, but it’s a seriously beautiful space, open-plan, just a kingsize bed wrapped in Egyptian cotton and sheepskins slung over a 50s-style sofa. There’s a simple kitchenette for self catering, and a private deck with a BBQ, wood-fired sauna and outdoor shower, surrounded by flowers, utterly peaceful.

For a drink or supper, stroll 5 minutes to the local pub. For Lyme Regis, it’s a 25-minute walk along a pretty riverside path to the famed Cobb harbour, shingle beach and gentle curve of Georgian houses. Be sure to visit Swim while you’re there, the coolest of beach cafés, serving fresh crab sandwiches. And don’t forget your walking boots for the dramatic Jurassic coastal path, with its hidden coves and vertiginous cliffs.

Getting here: drive or train to Lyme Regis then taxi (15 mins).

Owner of Lymw Regis Hideaway

Owners Vanessa and Jethro moved to the area a decade ago, along with their 3 small children and tiny dog, Friday. With a background in fashion and design, they swiftly turned their Garden House (a 1960s single-storey dwelling) into a thing of beauty, filling it with mid-century design pieces, then converting a former outbuilding into the Studio.

My Kip favourites

She loves
“Eating breakfast on the deck, listening to birdsong.”

We love
The trio of woven hangings above the bed, whose patterns mirror the bedspread.

You may not love
Min 2, 3 nights or 7 nights (see Specifics). The fact that the owners live next door (though you’re completely private).

  • "We absolutely loved the Studio. We were blessed with perfect weather but it would be lovely in any conditions. Vanessa was a superb hostess, giving very detailed information about the area (which is utterly gorgeous). The Studio is compact and bijou, very comfortable and stylish. We used the barbecue every day for cooking (there isn't an oven) and had two sublime saunas. The area is just stunning, with amazing walks from the door and a delightful stroll down to Lyme Regis along the river. We had a wonderful stay and would return in a heartbeat."

  • An absolute gem. This really is like a small piece of heaven in which to escape from the general madness of the world outside. I will be back.

Electricity is powered by solar panels, and the studio is heated by a woodburner. The Ren toiletries are refillable, to prevent single-use plastic, and all cleaning products are Ecover.
