Set right on the still, glassy edge of Loch Venachar, these Scandi-led lodges feel like a wellness break disguised as a holiday. The Trossachs’ pine forests and hills rise all around promising stunning outdoor adventures, but each has an alfresco hot tub so even if you just sit in the bubbles and gaze at the mesmerising view, you’re still boosting endorphins. Carsaig sleeps 6 and Coorie sleeps 4; or book them together for a brilliantly spacious lochside takeover. Both have beautifully calm interiors and killer views of Ben Venue and Loch Venachar (plus an equal ratio of bedrooms and bathrooms, always a bonus).  Carsaig is especially good for families, thanks to a 2-acre garden, private beach, woodland fairy trail and secret den.

Bring paddleboards, windsurfers and kayaks to cast off from the private jetty, jump into the clear water for a bracing swim, wander forest paths, and climb into the hills for panoramic views. Cyclists have miles of glorious gravel and road riding on the doorstep (the Gravelfoyle trails are legendary), and wildlife constantly drifts through the landscape so bring binoculars to spy red squirrels in the trees, deer at the woodland edge, even ospreys circling above. Despite the incredible sense of remoteness, you’re only 5 minutes from the lively little town of Callander – and an exceptional restaurant sits right next door: superb seasonal food with loch views to match, plus a wild sauna. Could this be any more perfect?

Owners of Loch Venachar Lodges

Debbie’s parents bought Carsaig as a family holiday home, and they eventually listed it for holiday rentals, too, so others could enjoy its special location. It quickly became very popular, with many returning guests. When Debbie’s parents retired, she and her husband Dene took over the rental, refurbishing Carsaig and building a second house on the land, Coorie. Both lodges have featured in design magazines such as Wallpaper*, travel press such as Time Out and mainstream press such as The Times.

My Kip favourites

They love
“The lodges’ restorative qualities. Your shoulders drop as soon as you arrive and breathe the air, and by the time you leave you are recharged and ready to face the world again. We love long chats around the table, the views that constantly change, the deep sleeps and being so close to nature.”

We love
Coorie’s striking black exterior and upside-down design, with living spaces up top to maximise on the views. The location is brilliant too: easy to reach from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Perth, yet it feels so removed from everyday life.

You may not love
Super popular; you’ll need to plan ahead. Rates don’t include cleaning, and stays require a security deposit (see FAQ)

Sustainability.

Carsaig has solar panels, Coorie has an air source heat pump. Both properties have an EV charger. Eco toiletries and cleaning products.

  • Loch Venachar is literally on your doorstep, so morning dips and lazy paddleboard drifts are a must. As is a hot tub afterwards.
  • Nearby Ben A’an is the classic short-and-spectacular climb: a steady zigzag up to sweeping views across lochs and mountains.
  • Bring bikes: the legendary Gravelfoyle trails weave for over 200 miles through the Trossachs’ forests and glens. Road riders can tackle the glorious curves of Duke’s Pass or follow scenic Route 7 of the National Cycle Network.
  • Next door at Venachar Lochside you’ll find a great restaurant serving seasonal food (Orkney scallops, venison loin with beetroot ketchup, plus a cracking Sunday roast.)
  • There’s also a wood-fired wild sauna at Venachar Lochside, with front-row water views. Sweat it out after a day in the saddle / wandering forest trails. Or jump in the loch then sprint back into the warmth.
  • Families can zip through the trees at Go Ape, wander sculpture trails in Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, or let little explorers loose on the Glen Finglas Play Trail.
  • Visit the The Trossachs Woollen Mill: iconic tweed fashion plus a famous pair of photogenic Highland cows.
  • Just 5 minutes away, Callander is your go-to for coffee, delis, ice cream, whisky shops and a gentle potter through independent stores.
