Slow down, unwind, and enjoy the simple pleasures at this utterly idyllic cottage cradled in Wiltshire countryside. Part-time home to James and Bex, a cinematographer and costume designer who split their time between Los Angeles and the UK, it’s s a creative, characterful haven designed for easy living. Once a pair of workman’s cottages, the house is a unique warren of rooms, beamed ceilings and boho-chic decor beneath a picture-book thatched roof. And with 2 double bedrooms, a high bunk single and a baby cot room, there’s plenty of space for a family or friends. A beautiful annexe — The Shudde — can sleep an additional 2 guests, so it’s ideal for another couple, grandparents or teenagers. It can also be booked independently of the cottage (though only one group can stay at a time).

In summer, the enormous walled garden comes alive — play croquet on the lawn, pick fresh fruit from the apple, plum, and pear trees, plunder the greenhouse for herbs and vegetables, or simply lounge in the sunshine listening to the birds and the breeze. In colder months, admire the area’s iconic chalk horses on long rambles then curl up by the fire with a good book while dinner slow cooks in the Aga. An English countryside dream.

“My husband and I both work in film, so we travel a lot for work. We are based between Los Angeles and the UK, where we try to spend as much time as possible with family here in Wiltshire; all my siblings and parents are within a 20-minute drive. We purchased the cottage in early 2023 after deciding we needed more space than our 2-bed flat in Hackney. It was the first property we saw and we were instantly smitten! The previous family lived there for 30 years and had lovingly nurtured the garden, but the interiors needed a lot of work. We have slowly redecorated and evened out lots of the floors upstairs, some of which were sloping to over 1 foot across the room! We absolutely love spending time here.” Owners, Bex and James

  • "Had a fantastic time staying here over the weekend. Waking up and opening the windows to see the large garden with fruit trees growing along side the beautiful old brick wall was the perfect way to start the day. Large kitchen with a style in keeping with the rest of the house but still gives modern functionality. Beautiful walk to a lovely pub two villages over. Can’t wait to come back! "
