“In 2015, I persuaded my very tolerant husband to leave the rat-race of London behind and chase a dream of starting an off-grid holiday business. Little did I know this would include living in a caravan for 2 years whilst we first converted a barn to live in (cue, screams of ‘Where’s the WiFi?’ from our teenagers). But we’ve done it! We built our first cabin from scratch using salvaged materials from the barn conversion project, and it was featured in The Guardian, The Times, Elle, Grazia & The Simple Things. In 2024 we built a second cabin using old lorry bodies, which was featured on the most-recent series of George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces. So the lesson is, always chase your dream!” Owner, Helen
She loves
“That they are totally unique spaces. One-offs, built by us, with love.”
We love
The thought of sitting under a multitude of stars on the veranda of your cabin, with the only light from candles and the moon.
You may not love
Off-grid living: no plug sockets or WiFi. Sorry, no kids or dogs.
Sustainability.
The entire site has been rewilded, and the off-grid cabins sit amongst 6 acres of wildflower meadows. They are built from offcuts and upcycled materials, including old refrigerated lorry bodies! Furnishings are largely vintage or upcycled, and electricity is solar powered.
Surrounds.
- Book a reiki or aromatherapy treatment; the lovely therapists can set up in your cabin or on your verandah — or in the wildflower meadow in summer.
- This area is spoilt for choice when it comes to restaurants: try Source Bistro in Bungay for seasonal brilliance, or Stoke Mill in Stoke Holy Cross for something a little special. Both 15 mins’ drive.
- Bliss out at The Secret Sauna on the banks of the River Waveney — cold, clear water followed by the warm glow of the sauna (10 mins’ drive).
- Afterwards, have coffee at The Silo — beans roasted to perfection, pastries and cakes worth travelling for.
- Helen’s favourite pub is The Locks Inn at Geldeston — tucked away, reachable by boat or by beautiful meander. A proper locals’ secret (20 mins’ drive).
- Taste English wines at Flint Vineyard (15 mins’ drive). Pinot Noir Précoce is an award-winning, vibrant red, whilst the Flint Dry is a too-drinkable blend of Chardonnay, Bacchus, and Pinot Blanc.
- Head to the Norfolk and Suffolk Coast for beautiful beaches (Holkham, Wells-next-the-Sea), creative towns (Southwold, Walberswick) and windswept walks on Dunwich Heath. To escape the crowds, Cove Hithe is a secret slice of heaven.
- Hire boats or paddleboards to float along the tranquil Norfolk Broads from Beccles, Loddon or Geldeston, all 20 mins’ drive.
- Day trip to Norwich (20 mins’ drive): start with coffee and vintage browsing in the Lanes, wander the cobbled streets to the cathedral, pop into the market for a local-bites lunch then catch a film at Cinema City. It’s a city with real soul — creative, compact, and full of cool, hidden corners.

Though the owners love dogs, there’s too much wildlife in the meadow plus they have livestock, so it’s strictly no dogs we’re afraid.
Unfortunately not, this place is adults only to preserve the peace.
No plug sockets, no WiFi. Just solar-powered hot water and candle / firelight
Sorry, no – the owners feel you need a minimum of 2 nights to reap the benefits of unplugging and giving yourself a real digital detox.
They’re far enough away from each other to give you total privacy. They sit in a 6-acre wildflower meadow, so there’s plenty of space around them.
Yes absolutely. Solo female guests make up a huge proportion of their guests. It’s totally safe here.
No, but you can cook over the firepit, and all the tools to do this are provided.
Yes, assuming they don’t have a fast changeover to do, a late check-out is always available at no extra cost, especially on Sundays and Mondays. This can be confirmed closer to the stay.
