Live out your hygge fantasy in this cosy cabin on Devon’s stunning south coast. Inside, it’s all earthy tones, rustic textures and warm wood accents. The lounge is particularly cocooning, thanks to floor-length curtains and a perfectly worn leather sofa next to a well-stocked wood-burning stove. Sheepskin throws and hand-poured natural candles are the icing on the cosy cake while in the master bedroom a beautiful oval bathtub invites long luxurious soaks; leave the window open and listen to birdsong as you read.

Tucked away in a wooded valley beside a little river, it’s the perfect balance of off-the-beaten-track without being totally isolated. Totnes and Dartmouth offer colourful markets, indie cafés and art galleries, and you’re only a short drive from some of Devon’s best beaches; Blackpool Sands is the closest, a huge swathe of sand that’s often empty outside high season. Come for a creative retreat and browse the owner’s selection of crafts and interiors books, hole up à-deux for a romantic weekend or bring the kids for an activity-packed holiday in the West Country.

Getting here: you’ll need to drive.

“I moved from London to Devon 20 years ago. My work as a Creative Director has taken me all over the world, but the more I travel the more I appreciate the unspoilt, natural beauty of South Devon. When I discovered a beautiful woodland above a river with 9 cabins hidden in the trees. I fell in love with the location; the cabins had been there for over 20 years. I happened to be in the right place at the right time and was lucky enough to buy one. I worked with wonderful local specialist craftsmen, Huti, to totally transform the interior, using local ash to make the kitchen doors and skirting boards, and sourcing reclaimed and repurposed things wherever I could. I love spending time here.” Owner, Fiona

There are 2 neighbouring cabins, so whilst secluded and quiet, this doesn’t offer total isolation. You’ll need a car here.

  • “We had an absolutely amazing stay at South Devon Den. It was such a relaxing break and the cabin was styled to perfection. We especially loved the bath in the master bedroom and curling up on the sofa in the evenings with the fire lit. The kitchen had everything we needed and the welcome basket was a lovely touch. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and we will definitely be returning.”
