Space & setting.

Mixing cottage-y charm with contemporary design, this is a perfect base for Kent’s glorious microclimate and local sandy beaches. You’re in a little village bordering Broadstairs; close enough to wander in for pubs, restaurants and art galleries (20 mins), but away from the hubbub, which can be overwhelming in high summer — so the best of both worlds. Soaring white cliffs and sheltered bays line the coastal path below. Spend your time sunbathing and paddleboarding at golden Viking Bay, or take the kids crabbing, rock-pooling and hunting for fossils nearby. Gelato from Morelli’s should be a daily pitstop. The house itself is bijou but absolutely beautiful, spread over 3 floors, with 2 lovely bedrooms and a contemporary-meets-vintage vibe. There’s quirk a’plenty too in the narrow stairs and unique art, while the garden is a real suntrap, perfect for evening drinks and BBQs. Come for as long as you can; the hip towns of Deal, Whitstable and Sandwich are easy day trips for a change of scene.

Getting here: drive, or train to Broadstairs and taxi (5 mins)

Greys Cottage Broadstairs

“We wanted an investment property, but one we could also enjoy ourselves, and after visiting the surrounding areas of Deal, Whitstable and Sandwich, we fell in love with Broadstairs. Ben is a DIY pro and I love design – especially interiors – and we completed a lot of work ourselves, including the garden restoration. I upcycled a lot of the furniture and spent most of lockdown painting!” Owner, Sara

“It sounds silly but I love that it’s little! It is cosy and as a family of 4, we feel closer when we are there. I love the sound of the seagulls too – it just instantly makes us relax and feel away from the day to day.”

We love
The wicker chairs and that vintage-style dressing table.

  • "It's beautiful. So stylish and thoughtfully done. The kitchen is fab and has everything... the bedrooms are so comfortable....We loved Staple coffee shop and lunch at The Jetty. Had an amazing meal at Sargasso in Margate. The perfect birthday weekend - we hope to be back."

  • "Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful little house. We had a wonderful time, It is our first staycation with our little one who is just 3 months old. You made it super easy, and the cot in the main room was just perfect - he slept through the night! We would love to visit again. The design and decor is so lovely and cosy, it has given us inspiration for our own home"

  • "What a beautiful little home! The decor was gorgeous, down to all the little details, the board games and toys in the kids room. The hosts were amazing and gave us some great recommendations. Felt like a proper getaway with some great places on our doorstep. Perfect for a family of four or two couples (we’d have probably used the room downstairs more as two couples). We’ll be back! And recommending."

* Mooch around St Peter’s with its historic church, local microbreweries and an old-fashioned sweet shop. We love the charismatic staff at the local Dickens museum – straight out of one of his novels.
* Broadstairs is beautiful (20 mins’ walk): ancient architecture and art galleries galore. Lunch at Wyatt & Jones or grab fish and chips from Star of the Sea.
* Hit the beach: sheltered Viking Bay has a crescent of golden sand and pretty beach huts.
* Five minutes in the car takes you to Joss Bay, where a small café sells paninis, buckets and spades and good old-fashioned deck chairs. Surf and paddleboard lessons are on offer, or head on to Botany Bay for fossils and rock pools.
* We love Whitstable (30 mins’ drive) where the kids can go crabbing off the pier (note; crabs go crazy for bacon). For an oyster lunch, try Wheelers, or take the kids to Farm & Harper for burgers.
* Deal offers charming narrow streets flanked with cottages, a castle with tunnels, and a promenade perfect for scooters. Or, if you fancy a punt along a river, Canterbury is another stellar option.

It’s £50 per stay. This is payable to the owner directly after booking.

Sorry, they don’t.

There’s no off-street parking. You can park in one of the streets around the house – the streets are narrow and in parts are marked with restrictions, but you can usually find a space.

Viking Bay is roughly 15-20 minutes walk away.

The house is suitable for either a family (2 + up to 3 kids) or up to 4 adults sharing 2 bedrooms.  Please note, the staircase to the cellar is steep and concrete – it is also uneven – therefore it may not be suitable for small children or anyone with mobility issues.

While the house is welcome to children, it is not ‘baby proofed’ as such for very young children. They can provide a travel cot and high chair, but there are no safety gates, electrical socket guards or other baby/toddler safety equipment in the house.

There’s a Co-Op in the village, about 5 minutes from the cottage. Also available within 5 minutes are a Chinese and Indian takeaway and a Fish and Chip shop.
