“We moved into our house 24 years ago and planted the vineyard, landscaped the grounds and worked hard to maximise the beauty and tranquility of the site to encourage wildlife as we developed our first vintages. We then decided to share this lovely spot with guests, and designed and helped build the 3 cabins. Each is unique in style, with a different view, and we’ve filled them with everything you need to help you relax, recharge and unwind.” Owners, Chloe and James
She loves
“The peace and quiet, and being amongst nature: walking, reading books on the deck, and swimming in the lake.”
We love
Gooseberry’s cactus wallpaper and bold green colour scheme.
You may not love
There are 3 cabins, but they’re set apart from one another and designed for privacy. Adults only. You’ll hear a lot of wildlife and it can be noisy at night!
Sustainability.
Chloe and James developed the land specifically to support and sustain the local environment and biodiversity. They’ve planted wildflower meadows for bees and insects. Each cabin has been insulated using 26 Welsh sheep fleeces apiece, and the decking has been made from sustainable green oak. The interiors have been fitted out using solid wood sourced from Pontrilas Sawmill, and the Victorian cast-iron baths were reclaimed and refurbished.
Surrounds.
- Take a sunrise dip in the lake, steam in the sauna, then have coffee on your deck soaking up the huge nature views.
- Walking trails loop through the vineyard, woodland and wildflower meadows. Chloe can share suggested routes that take in local pubs and nearby villages.
- Or head to the Malvern Hills, which divide Worcestershire and Herefordshire and have fabulous footpaths. Take in amazing panoramic views from Worcestershire Beacon (the highest spot) and Herefordshire Beacon (an Iron Age Hill Fort). Ramble through bluebell woods and traditional orchards, and swing by Great Malvern Priory for its incredible collection of 15thC stained glass. Finish up at Faun bakery in Great Malvern: low key lunches and delicious coffee and cakes.
- Worcester has great shopping, riverside walks and a splendid cathedral. Book a table at Ounce for a slap-up steak lunch, or Maneki Ramen for modern Japanese.
- Ledbury is the loveliest village, with historic, timber-framed buildings and cobbled streets. The 16thC Feather’s Inn is our favourite spot for a drink, especially in winter.
- We also love the Netherwood Estate, with its medieval dovecote and beautiful walled garden. Have lunch at Sow whilst you’re here: organic, seasonal produce woven into delicious British flavours (book ahead).
