“We bought the farm with no grand plan; we just renovated the house, then the outbuildings, always trying to retain the rural and rustic charm of the place. When the large original pond needed dredging, we decided to turn it into something a bit special and got advice on swimming ponds before completing most of the work ourselves. It immediately filled with wildlife and became our favourite part of the property and when the old bird hide collapsed, we put the cabin its place. We have free-range chickens and a few orphan lambs each year as a nod to the farming history, but are not tough enough to be real farmers!” Owner Jo

We carried out much of the building work and all of the decorating, sewing and repurposing of furniture ourselves. I try hard not to buy anything new (aside from top-quality mattresses, bedding and towels), and to keep our waste and energy consumption as low as possible.”

Punting on the Cam
- Zip into Cambridge (5 miles along a cycle path from the village) for a mooch around the museums, galleries and independent shops, then have a delicious lunch on Benet St. Or punt down the Cam and soak up the sights from the water.
- Stroll through the Grantchester meadows, a pretty 5-mile circular walk from the village centre. There are plenty of spots for a wild swim en route.
- Sink into a deckchair under the apple trees at Orchard Tea Garden – this Cambridge institution has been serving up cream teas here for over a century.
- Duxford Imperial War Museum is a short drive away, its enormous hangars filled with incredible aircraft. Climbing aboard a WW2 Lancaster is an unforgettable experience.
- The area is full of historic homes and estates. Wimpole Hall has 600 acres of beautiful parkland and a rare breed farm. Jacobean-style Anglesey Abbey is particularly lovely in winter, when snowdrops fill its gardens.
- You can walk or cycle along boardwalks at Wicken Fen, a wetland nature reserve with masses of birds.
- Book ahead for Sunday roast at The Three Horseshoes, a pretty thatched pub a couple of miles away in Madingley.

Unfortunately not.
No, the cabin is adults-only to preserve the peace.
Not necessarily! Many guests arrive by train, and taxi here from Cambridge station, then just chill during the stay, perhaps pre-ordering food packs and walking to the 2 local pubs.
Definitely – Cambridge is the perfect city for exploring on 2 wheels, and it is about 5 miles into the city centre from here. Alternatively you can hire the owners’ ebikes for the day.
Yes, there’s good fibre broadband WiFi. Mobile signal can vary but you can enable WiFi calling.
Yes, the owners can pop up birthday bunting to greet you, and you can pre-order various treats including hand-tied bouquets of flowers, delicious Italian patisserie cakes, bottles of fizz and balloons. Once you’ve booked through Kip you can discuss this with the owners.
There’s a small kitchenette to prepare breakfast and light snacks but not an oven or hob.
The wood-fired sauna is an additional £60/2-hour slot. After you’ve confirmed a stay via Kip, you’ll be sent info from the owner, which will include instructions on booking and paying for your time slot.
Unfortunately not.
Mainly, yes. As the cabin sits right on the water, you get exclusive use of the swimming pond during the mornings and evenings. B&B / Wildflower Wagon guests are allowed to swim in it during the afternoon only (2-5pm, using the steps at the far right of the water).
