East Anglia
East Anglia has a landscape all its own: huge skies, reed-fringed waterways, medieval villages and a long, wild coastline where salt marshes give way to enormous beaches. For us, its heartland is Norfolk and Suffolk – 2 counties with plenty in common, but very different personalities once you start exploring.
Norfolk brings the Broads, vast sandy beaches and salt marshes, with Norwich adding brilliant independent shops, food and culture. Suffolk feels a little more intimate: arty Aldeburgh, Southwold and Orford along the coast; handsome wool towns inland; winding lanes, estuaries and some excellent places to eat tucked between them.
There’s a strong creative streak running through both counties, alongside the sort of outdoorsy pleasures that require very little planning: swimming, sailing, cycling, birdwatching, beach walks and long lunches in country pubs.
