Hidden in a thicket of whispering bamboo and overlooking a reed-fringed lake, this feels a world away from its Somerset setting. Tucked away down a country track, the bold black cabin was inspired by Indonesian hideaways and designed for dreamy romantic escapes. Everything has been crafted a total switch-off: mornings on the sun-drenched deck watching dragonflies on the lake, afternoons sprawled on rocking loungers or the sun-drenched outdoor sofas, and starlit evenings soaking in the outdoor tub and cosying up by the firepit.
Cloaked by beautiful Somerset countryside, gorgeous walks wind out from the front door, and you can quickly zip to the Jurassic Coast for sea air, swims and fossil hunting. But most guests chuck their car keys in a drawer on arrival and leave them there for the duration. With a gym, games room, hot tub & sauna (plus cold-bucket experience for the hardy) on-site, and a brilliant local gastropub a wander away for candlelit dinners, there’s everything you could need or want right here. True tranquillity without the long-haul flight.

Golden West Bay with its extraordinary cliffs is a must-see, and we love Lyme Regis’ horseshoe Cobb harbour and streets of independents — the coffee at Town Mill Bakery is the best, or for sunset with oysters and a crisp glass of wine head to Hix.
- Browse the thriving market at Bridport for vintage bargains, vinyl, local produce, and crafts (held on Wednesdays and Saturdays).
- Catch a film or comedy night at Bridport Electric Palace, a reinvigorated Art Deco theatre.
- Walk the stunning stretch of the SW coast path from Burton Bradstock to West Bay, fuelling first at the award-winning Hive Beach Café.
