*Brand new*

At the crossroads between 3 of England’s most picturesque counties, this unique tiny house is a creator’s dream. Its owners — a film-maker and actress couple — designed and hand-built it to be a space where inspiration can breathe freely, the simple interiors offering minimal distraction and maximum comfort, so your thoughts can simply be in creative freefall when you stay. It’s as eco as they come – soft cork cladding, solar panels and a waterless compost toilet – but that’s not to say you’ll be slumming it. There’s an endless supply of hot water, plenty of wardrobe space and a mezzanine with a memory-foam mattress. Creativity is fuelled by filtered coffee, barefoot walks across the grass and a sense of peace that’s hard to come by in daily life; but it’s also lovely to just unplug completely here. Book a massage beneath the trees, or take a book down to where the stream flows into a mini-waterfall; say hello to resident ducks Susan and Paul.

During the day, occasional trains trundle across the nearby viaduct (hourly, at most), but otherwise you’ll hear silence bar the bleating of sheep in the field next door. Foodies will be spoilt for choice, with award-winning pubs, artisan bakeries and a Michelin-star restaurant in nearby Bruton and Frome (not to mention iconic country estate The Newt down the road). But the most magical dining setting is right here, beneath the trees on your own woodland island; light the firepit and stay out til the small hours, counting stars and dreaming big.

Getting here: train to Gillingham, then taxi (6 mins)

“Back in 2020, when we were 22 and 24, we built this space as two young creatives with a passion for design and small spaces. We actually designed it so that we could live in it, experiencing every nuance of the land, and we’ve ensured it’s equipped to support a comfortable and sustainable life in a tiny house. Now, we’ve decided to share it with others who want to tap into their own creativity. This place really means a lot to us and we hope it does for our guests too. Our vision was to create a place where you could truly live, not just stay for a few nights, giving you the freedom to craft and explore without the limitations of a typical hotel.” Owners, Jasper and Connie

My Kip favourites

They love
“Quiet nights talking over the firepit or hearing the rain softly patter on the roof while watching a movie.”

We love
The pink shower room, with lovely natural shower and hair products.

You may not love
On the rustic side of what we offer but some very special elements and great for those who want a simple reconnect with nature. Composting toilet (though high quality and easy to use). Occasional noise from trains passing. Weak phone signal (but good WiFi). Sorry, no dogs.

  • "Beautifully designed cabin with good amenities. The small land around it is lovely and peaceful. We brought our bikes and cycled to Stourhead one day which was a good quiet cycle journey. Jasper was very helpful and friendly via email. Only drawback is that if you don't have a car, local taxi journeys are very expensive (we went to Bruton, 20 minutes down the road, for £50 one way!). Roads around the area are generally fine to cycle but not really safe to walk longer distances."

Sustainability.

Fully off-grid. Solar-powered electricity and hot water. Cork cladding and high levels of sheep’s wool insulation. (Note: connected to the mains water). Grey water recycling system. Composting toilet.
