“After years of running financial businesses, we found ourselves drawn to Somerset and fell for Wraxall Lodge, a 200-year-old farmhouse in need of renovation, sitting next door to an established vineyard. We moved here for the house, but quickly fell in love with the land and views… and then the potential of the vineyard. In 2021, we bought that too, with the ambition of nurturing some of Somerset’s oldest vines and helping them thrive for future generations. Today, all 4 of our daughters plus our sons-in-law are involved in one way or another, from harvests and new ideas to welcoming guests. The fact that check out on Sundays is at noon, so you can have a proper lie in, followed by an excellent roast lunch on site.
You may not love
Rural; you’ll need a car if you plan to explore the area. This is a working vineyard so you may hear noise eg tractors. The shepherd huts are next to one another. No dogs or children in the shepherds huts.
Sustainability.
The land is very carefully nurtured. There’s a huge amount of wildlife here and in the surrounding areas, including birds of prey, song birds, and deer.

- Wander through the vines and out into the surrounding countryside along public footpaths. This is a stunning part of the world.
- Book a tour and tasting, followed by a lazy meal at the brilliant on-site restaurant The View. Think Barber’s cheddar & cider rarebit with poached eggs for brunch; Asian-glazed pork belly bites and roast cauliflower with spiced carrots for lunch; steak dinners with skin-on chips and slow-cooked lamb-shoulder Sunday lunches.
- Zip to Bruton, one of Somerset’s most creative little towns, for great indie shops and lunch at The Old Pharmacy. Afterwards, head to the wonderful Hauser + Wirth gallery.
- Explore the magnificent gardens at Stourhead, where winding paths lead past temples and grottoes, around a beautiful lake.
- Or spend a day at The Newt, whose productive gardens, woodland walks and cider orchards will delight any aspiring gardeners.
- Head to Wells, England’s smallest city: medieval streets, twice-weekly markets and extraordinary cathedral.
- Explore Glastonbury beyond the clichés: independent bookshops, vintage treasures and excellent cafes. Climb the Tor for panoramic views.
- Hop aboard the East Somerset Railway on a nostalgic steam train journey through the countryside, a particular favourite with families.
- Follow Somerset’s food trail, picking up local treats from producers including Westcombe, Whitelake Cheese, Barber’s Cheddar and Lievito Bakery. Perfect with a glass of Wraxall fizz on your terrace as the sun goes down.

40% deposit, with the balance due 7 days prior to stay.
Cancellations permitted 7 days + prior to stay, with deposit refunded minus a £40 processing fee.
No refunds if cancelled within 7 days of stay. These terms also apply to any booking amendments or date changes.

Yes – it’s a 25-minute walk.
Yes, 1 dog is welcome in Cottages 1 or 2 (gardens are not enclosed), and 2 dogs are welcome in Vine Cottage (enclosed garden). There is a surcharge of £25/dog/stay. Note dogs must be kept on a lead in the vineyard. Unfortunately no dogs are allowed in the shepherd huts.
Yes, children are welcome in the cottages and there’s a baby cot and highchair to borrow. Please note the cottages are spread over 2 floors so might not suit toddlers. The shepherd huts are too small for additional guests, but 1 child can share with 1 adult.
Each has a radiator; they get lovely and cosy!
1 x super-kingsize bedroom. 3 x superkingsize bedrooms, which can be set up as twins for an additional £30/room/stay. There’s an additional sofabed in the study, which can be made up for 2 extra guests (£30/stay).
Light Somerset breakfast – £10pp
Cooked Somerset breakfast – £15pp
Both include fresh croissants and delicious local produce.
Dinner in the Fridge – £25/pp
3-course seasonal menu: choices will be confirmed prior to your stay. Think slow-braised beef cottage pie, duck massaman curry, vegetable tagines and proper puddings, all designed to simply be heated up.
