Some houses are furnished. Others evolve slowly. This 2-bedroon cottage was once home to one of England’s top antiques dealers, and rather than erase that history, its current owners have added their own layer. Today, original modern artworks sit alongside antiques, shelves are lined with books on architecture and design, and every room reflects years of curation. Nothing feels precious though. An old cabinet inherited from the previous owner now holds sketchbooks and paints instead of porcelain. The Lacanche is there to be cooked on, not admired. What you’ll remember isn’t any one painting or piece of furniture, but the feeling that everything has been slowly, carefully, pulled together.

Miles of peaceful country footpaths begin almost from the front door, crossing green fields and gentle valleys. In early spring, gather wild nettles for homemade pesto; in late summer, hedgerows are heavy with blackberries. There’s a welcoming pub a walk away, while Murcott Farm Shop serves up excellent coffee and local produce. Or hop in the car to some of the area’s best tables, including The Rectory, The Potting Shed, The Pig and The Wild Duck, all set in beautiful honey-hued villages.

Getting here: best to drive but you can train to Kemble then taxi here (14 mins, pre order the taxi)

Owner of Collector's Cottage

“Owning this garden cottage, and adjacent main house, felt like fate from the moment we walked through the door. Having spent years in the worlds of art, design and culture, we recognised a kindred spirit in its former owner, one of England’s leading antiques dealers, whose eye had shaped the accommodation for decades. Over the course of a year-long restoration, we lived in the house and carefully refreshed the cottage while preserving its soul, introducing contemporary art, colour and craftsmanship alongside the antiques already woven into the fabric. As founders of Collector & Co, a creative community for artists and makers, we see the cottage as an extension of the same philosophy: a place where beautiful objects are meant to be lived with, and inspiration comes as much from the surrounding landscape as the shelves of books.”

My Kip favourites

She loves
“The peace and tranquility inside and around the cottage. It’s aesthetically delightful to look at it and live in. I love to open the terrace doors and watch the horses gallop around the field opposite, or listen to the birds sing. It’s pure country life.”

We love
“The brilliant curation of art, including a still life above the dining table by Camilla Wordie, the Wall Bronze thistle sculpture by Robyn Neild and the bronze figs by Alice Andrea Ewig.

  • "Tucked away in the rolling countryside near the Cotswolds, this guest house is an absolute gem. From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the thoughtful interior design—every detail, from the decor to the layout, felt curated for both comfort and elegance, while the spacious rooms offered a wonderful sense of privacy. The modern kitchen and bath fittings blended seamlessly with the property's cozy, charming character, striking that rare balance between rustic warmth and high-end comfort. Right outside the door, footpaths wind through the surrounding countryside—gorgeous, unspoiled walks where I didn't encounter another soul, a rare and welcome kind of solitude. Being just a short drive from the Cotswolds' most picturesque villages made it easy to explore by day, yet returning to such a tranquil retreat each evening felt like the real luxury."

  • Miles of public footpaths unfurl from the cottage through quiet farmland and rolling valleys. Rarely busy and beautifully unspoilt, they’re the sort of walks where you’re more likely to meet a horse than another rambler. You can stop for a drink at local inn Horse & Groom.
  • Pop and pick up pastries, the papers, local cheeses and Allpress coffee from Murcott Farm Shop, then have a lazy breakfast on the terrace.
  • Browse the antique shops and independent galleries of nearby Tetbury.
  • Wander around the extraordinary 12thC Malmesbury Abbey, then visit the town’s lovely independents.
  • There are excellent restaurants a short drive away. We love The Potting Shed (gastro pub), Juliet (European small plates), The Rectory (creative British fare), The Pig In The Cotswolds (seasonal brilliance from the kitchen gardens) and The Wild Duck (great Sunday roasts).
  • Spend a morning at Westonbirt Arboretum. It’s beautiful year-round with summer concerts and festive winter trails, but utterly spectacular in autumn when the maples put on their annual show.
  • Book a tour of Highgrove Gardens, King Charles’ private residence.
  • Make a day of the Cotswold Water Park. Hire a paddleboard, swim, sail or simply find a quiet lakeside spot with a picnic.
  • Return home before dusk. The sunsets over the fields are reason enough to head back for Golden Hour, and night skies here are a glitter of stars.
