There’s something so serene about this cabin. Perhaps it’s the way it sits tucked among the trees in a 4-acre meadow, sunlight spilling across the grass in the mornings, then the soft glow of a lamp at dusk. Perhaps it’s that it feels utterly secluded — yet it’s just 10 minutes from the centre of Bath, with its honey-stoned buildings, great boutiques and famous Roman Baths.

Once, this was just an unloved carport. Not the most obvious start for something so beautiful, but with the vision and graft of its owners, it’s now pure warmth and easy elegance — a place for slow mornings, country walks and fireside evenings. Inside, every inch feels considered. A calm, neutral palette is layered with texture and patina — antique finds alongside contemporary design. Come summer, throw open the doors and let the breeze flow through; in winter, cosy under a blanket and watch the morning mist drift over the meadow. Wild deer wander right up to the doors; woodpeckers tap on the grass, and the contented quack of ducks drifts up from the lake. It’s a place that makes you notice the quiet things again.

Getting here: drive, or train to Bath then Uber (20 mins)

Owners of Duck House

“The cabin was originally a very unloved carport, but we saw its potential and, with the help of some very talented friends and Camden Mews, our friend Guy’s construction company, we reimagined the space from the ground up. We were inspired by American lakehouses: warm, inviting and designed for slow living. We wanted to create somewhere that feels like a true escape, but also a place that feels instantly familiar and comfortable.” Owners, Lauren & Simon

They love
“Long countryside walks, then coming back to the cosy, calm feel of the cabin.”

We love
All the outdoor space. You can breakfast on the terrace, stretch on the yoga deck, picnic in the orchard, walk around the lake then use the BBQ and outdoor kitchen space to whip up open-air dinners. Glorious year-round.

You may not love
It’s in the owners’ grounds (though completely private), and the meadow, lake & orchard are shared spaces. Rural-speed WiFi, not suitable for remote working. Sorry no pets.

  • "My partner and I stayed at the Duck House for a quiet way to bring in the New Year and it was just the right place for us. We really enjoyed the canal walk into the bath. We visited the near by villages of Frome and Bradford on Avon which were stunning but I think it was only possible to take all that in knowing we were going back to a cosy beautiful cottage with a wood burner an all the essentials to make our trip magical. The cottage is located on a spread of green with a pond nearby to have gentle walks and Lauren was an amazing host, always on hand next door if we needed her. I would definitely recommend to anyone who wants a tranquil and rejuvenating stay."

  • "One of the most beautiful places we’ve ever stayed in! On entering the Duck House, you’re welcomed by a cleverly designed boot room, such a brilliant idea! The space opens into a stunning kitchen / living area. The kitchen is of exceptional quality, fully equipped with everything you need, including a Nespresso machine with complimentary pods! The living area feels luxurious, with a deep, comfortable sofa and stylish accessories and décor. The attention to detail in the interiors is as delightful to admire as the views framed by the beautiful windows and doors. The bathroom is modern and airy, with ample storage, a powerful shower and soft towels. The bedroom is equally impressive with a huge, supremely comfortable bed dressed in high-quality linens. Handy USB ports by the bedside and large windows with blackout curtains make it both practical and restful. Outside, the setting is simply incredible, with so many inviting spots to enjoy. We couldn’t recommend this place more highly!"

  • "From the moment we stepped inside, it was clear that every detail had been thoughtfully and lovingly curated. The styling of the cabin is exquisite — a perfect blend of cozy, modern, and rustic charm. Every corner felt like it belonged in a design magazine. The cabin is nestled in an incredibly scenic spot, surrounded by views, beautiful walks and tranquility. The outdoor space is just as well-designed as the inside — perfect for a morning coffee or a sunset wine. It’s rare to find a place that feels this intentional and welcoming right from the start. If you’re lucky enough to book this place, do it — it’s a peaceful retreat you won’t want to leave. We can’t wait to come back!"

FAQs.

Yes, very. Bath Spa is on a direct line from London Paddington (1 hr 15), and from here you can jump in an Uber (20 mins).

The owners will share their parking tips when you stay. If you want to avoid city traffic you can hire an ebike or escooter in the next village and zip into town along the cycle lanes. (Note, they are only available to hire to and from Bath).

Unfortunately not. The owners love kids & welcome babies, but due to the lake being unfenced, they cannot risk a child wandering off near the water.

Not yet, but the owners are hoping to make it swimmable soon! Currently it’s just to be enjoyed sat on the bench, picnicking on the grass, or walking around the perimeter to see the ducks. You will need to sign a liability doc before your stay, which the owners will send directly to you.

It’s a good idea, yes. The owners will send a list of recommended eateries prior to your stay.
