“For over a decade we holidayed in Scotland, exploring the Highlands and its isles, falling in love with remote bothies and ruins in far-flung corners. Tom found the cabin in 2021. Stepping inside felt like entering a living, breathing part of the landscape — so cosy and cocooned from the elements, with breathtaking views across Loch Sunart. We live and work in London (Tom is a restaurateur and I’m a designer) so spent 5 years making it our home from home, but now our growing family means the journey north isn’t as easy as it once was. We miss it so much when we’re not there, but we’re excited to share it with others in need of an escape from it all, and let it work its magic on them too.” Owners, Tom & Connie
They love
“Sliding open the bedroom doors first thing to soak up the view, then climbing back under the duvet and breathing in that fresh healing air.”
We love
The thrill of being somewhere so remote and rugged, and having experiences like kayaking with porpoises and hand diving for scallops.
You may not love
Remote – see FAQ – though there’s a local shop and hotel restaurant 10 mins’ drive away. A 7-night min stay changing over Fridays. The wood-fired sauna costs extra – see FAQ.
Sustainability.
The cabin is off-grid. Toiletries supplied are by local producers.
Surrounds.
- Swim from the beach, warm up in the wood-fired sauna, then launch a kayak or paddleboard to glide alongside seals, porpoises and otters. If you’re exceptionally lucky, you might see the bay glowing with phosphorescence.
- Tuesday means one thing around here: the seafood van at Salen Jetty. Stock up on hand-dived scallops and local langoustines, then head back to the cabin for a shellfish feast. (8 min drive)
- Visit idyllic Sanna Bay. The drive takes you right along the peninsula, through dramatic Highland scenery, then you arrive to reach dazzling white sand, turquoise water, rock pools and far-reaching views to the Small Isles. (50 mins)
- Castle Tioram is a beautiful ancient ruin perched on its own tidal island, surrounded by beautiful beaches and walks. If you’re up for a hike, the Castle Tioram Silver Walk is one of the finest circuits in the Highlands. (25 mins)
- Day trip to Mull. Ferry from Kilchoan to colourful Tobermory for scallops and chips on the harbour, followed by Isle of Mull ice cream and a wander around the waterfront. If you have time, venture further to Iona or Ulva. (35 mins to the ferry)
- Ardnamurchan Distillery is small, sustainable and award-winning. Pick up a bottle to enjoy by the fire. (15 mins)
- Climb Ben Hiant – Ardnamurchan’s highest peak is a rewarding hike, with panoramic views stretching across Mull, Skye, Coll, Tiree and beyond. (20 mins)
- Climb Ardnamurchan Lighthouse for spectacular views from the most westerly spot in mainland Britain. It’s also a great spot for whale and basking shark watching. (1 hr)
- Glenuig Hall and the neighbouring inn regularly host traditional live music. A brilliant way to spend an evening. (35 mins)
- Explore the Celtic rainforests. Few people realise Britain’s Atlantic rainforests exist. Ariundle Oakwoods is the best place to experience these ancient moss-covered woods, especially on a misty day. (40 mins)
- Go wildlife watching – the cabin has plenty of wildlife on its doorstep, but boat trips on Loch Sunart and out to Staffa offer the chance to spot puffins, dolphins and even whales.
- Follow the Hogwarts Express – fans of Harry Potter shouldn’t miss the Glenfinnan Viaduct. Watch the Jacobite Steam Train cross the famous arches, or better still, hop aboard for one of Scotland’s most scenic railway journeys. (1 hr)

The log-fired sauna sits next to the house, and can be used for £150 surcharge/week. This includes enough wood for 5 x sessions.
Yes, 1 dog is welcome for a surcharge of £25/stay. They must be kept off furniture. Note the garden in front of the house runs right down to the beach and water’s edge, so isn’t enclosed.
Sorry, no, it’s a 7-night min stay, with Friday changeovers.
Geographically, it’s a 3-hour drive from Inverness and 4hrs from Glasgow. The Ardnamurchan peninsula is the most westerly point of the UK mainland and accessible only by single track roads. But Fort William is only an hour’s drive away, with everything you could need.
The cabin sits in a small community, with the well-stocked Salen Jetty Shop a 5-min drive away. We’d always advise checking long-range weather forecasts before setting off and arriving with basic supplies.
Note, the bay’s water supply comes straight from the hillside and can be peat coloured, especially after a storm. There is a 2,000 litre tank as back up.
There are around a dozen properties on the bay, but this is the only property on the water’s edge so it’s very private and the view across the water is uninterrupted.
Yes, there’s excellent fibre broadband. Phone signal depends on your provider – EE is the best.
No, unfortunately the vintage Ercol beds in the twin room are only suitable for children.
