Paradise by name, paradise by nature. And nature is the order of the day at Paradise Farm, a delightful smallholding turned stylish retreat near the Suffolk Coast, with an idyllic 10-acre sprawl of grounds. Whether you indulge in a daybreak swim in the heated pool, bathe in the dawn chorus over a cup of coffee, visit the resident chickens and kune kune pigs with the kids, or take a glass of wine to the woodland to look for Muntjac deer in the crepuscular light, you’ll feel like you’re in the very heart of the English countryside.

Owners Gemma (Content Director for Soho House, with a correspondingly keen eye for all things tasteful) and Thom live in the main house, and are steadily transforming its ancient outbuildings into beautiful, earthy lets. The Cider Store was their first — a dreamy 3-bedroom barn that’s ideal for a family or group of friends, and designed for time shared. The Gate House is opening soon and bookable now — an incredible hideaway for 2, with a mezzanine bedroom and alfresco hot tub.

Wander along paths cut through wildflowers; peer into pretty ponds; hang out at the pool and play boules. It’s an ideal base for daytrips too, to the Suffolk Coast and English vineyards. And come evening, grab a bucket of ice from the farm’s machine, clink it round some glasses and talk into the night over convivial dinners around the firepit or cosied up a deux. The best things in life aren’t things.

Getting here: train to Brampton, then taxi (5 mins)

My Kip favourites

They love
“Taking a bottle of wine to the woods to watch the sun slowly set across the fields.”

We love
The barn’s honey-hued bathrooms with smart chequerboard tiles, dusky rose linens, and (seriously on-trend) butter-yellow kitchen.

You may not love
Shared grounds and pool, though the barn is totally private. Various unfenced ponds so children must be supervised at all times. No shop in walking distance (10 mins’ drive).

  • "Wow, wow, wow! Gem & Thom couldn’t have been more accommodating. They have thought of every single detail from recommendations of where to go to setting up fire pit for star gazing when the northern lights were on. The space and grounds are breathtaking and the animal and pool are a bonus. We felt so relaxed and cant wait to come back with the kids."

FAQs.

Yes, a super cute local community run pub called The Race Horse, it has a lovely story – the pub was going to close down and the community of neighbours all chipped in and bought it. Excellent selection of local ales and solid pub food.

Yes, it’s heated to 28 degrees, which is warmer than most pools. The greenhouse surroundings keep it super warm in there, but the sides can be raised to merge the garden with the pool.

There are Kune kune pigs, pygmy goats and Burford Brown chickens. But the land is also home to a few wilds treats too – a set of ducks and their ducklings, a red kite, a small Muntjac deer often runs through the top field, and rabbits are always on the apple tree lawn. Doves can be seen, too, and masses of bees and butterflies drawn by the beautiful flowers.

Yes, there are a range of catering options available from low-key cooking help to full-on private chefs and banqueting. You can request a hamper of local produce (£50), and the owners are also happy to take in food deliveries early to set up the fridges for your arrival. A cold beer or wine is exactly what you want when you turn up!

The owners will do their best to help in any way. Forgotten a toothbrush, wellies, torch… want a outside heater, help with the firepit… a last-minute baby sitter… you name it, they will try to support.

In: 4pm; out: 10am

Early check ins/late check outs can sometimes be accommodated — feel free to ask.

Yes, most of the time, but they are very mindful of your space and privacy. They work the land, feed the animals, and ensure guests stays run smoothly.

Yes, the owners have a wealth of experience in event planning and this is their true passion, so let them know if you’d like them to help bring a special occasion to life. Anything from ‘the perfect place to get engaged’ (they have the best spot for this!) to a private dinner in the secret woodland…

The pool is is closed between Nov- March
