Matt and Harriet moved back to Hereford from Bristol to bring up their daughter Minnie in the countryside. Matt is a carpenter and builder and Harriet is a creative with a passion for interior design, so it made total sense to combine their skills and create this serene treetops space.
They love
“Literal forest bathing: start each day with an outdoor shower, looking out into the oak canopy.”
We love
The sense of space: this is literally the only building in 100 acres of woodland, and you have a front-row seat to the most incredible view.

Minimum 2 or 3 nights (see Specifics). No WiFi.
Sustainability.
Solar powered. Single stream plus soft plastic recycling. Eco-friendly cleaning, refuse and personal products. Sustainable British wool duvets and pillows (other options available). Electric car charger available at nearby at Brinsop Court (15 minute walk).
Surrounds.
- Sunbathe on the deck, explore the estate’s woodlands and meadows, and walk to the local pub for lunch (2 miles)
- Pack swimmers for a wild dip at Bredwardine river beach (15 mins’ drive). It’s a blissful spot for paddling, swimming and lounging with a picnic, admiring the grand old brick bridge.
- We love mooching along Hereford’s ancient shopping street, which winds up to the awesome cathedral. The little town is full of great restaurants, too: try Sensory & Rye for brunch (seasonal local fare), En BBQ for Korean grills and superior sushi, andThe Bookshop for an award-winning Sunday roast.
- Idle along the River Wye in a canoe: the Glasbury to Symonds Yat stretch is the most picturesque, with the added incentive of a fantastic pub at the end.
- Literary lovers’ Hay-on-Wye is a 30-minute drive, with indie bookshops at every turn. There are also excellent cafes and markets, as well as a beautiful river beach ‘The Warren’, just a short walk from the centre.
- And if you want to read more about the story of the estate, former gamekeeper Evan Rodgers recounts his time caring for this beautiful piece of protected land in his book A Funny Old Quist: Memoirs of a Gamekeeper – the perfect read for your stay.
- Explore the Black Mountains on foot: Cat’s Back Ridge and Hay Bluff are both circular walks with immense views of the Brecon Beacons.
