Tucked deep into the glorious Mallerstang Valley, with Pendragon Castle practically on the doorstep, this 3-bedroom Cumbrian cottage has had its interiors seriously zhuzhed up by Georgina Kentish (ex-Soho House, so you know it’s good). Inside, there’s space to gather and space to sprawl: a big dining table, 2 woodburners for firelit evenings, and a bathtub that gazes straight up to the fells. Outside, the garden is a showstopper, too: huge and private and perfect for BBQs, games of chase with the kids and stargazing — this is a Dark Sky Reserve. There’s even a sauna hut and outdoor cold-water shower so you can channel your inner Scandi before collapsing into a deckchair with a glass of wine.

The Mallerstang Valley is one of the most magical, and least-trodden, corners of England, and adventure is right on the doorstep. Clamber up Wild Boar Fell or along Mallerstang Edge with only wild ponies for company, take on Buttertubs Pass by bike, or plunge into secret swimming holes on the River Eden. For something gentler, wander to the ruins of Pendragon Castle with a picnic. And while you may feel blissfully remote here, civilisation isn’t far… the village pub at Nateby is just a 5-minute drive.

Getting here: drive, or taxi to Kirkby Stephen then taxi (10 mins, book in advance)

“We moved to the area from London in 2016, and renovated a handful of properties into luxe rentals with the help of Soho House interiors architect Georgina Kentish. She then bought this property to renovate and we manage it for her along with our Brownber Hall properties.” Peter and Amanda
