Perched on a rocky ridge within a rewilding project, this cabin feels like a secret keeping watch over the Somerset Levels. Step inside and you’ll smile: spruce ply walls glow softly in the light, soft linens promise to wrap you up warmly, and oxide-red accents add character. It’s tiny-house living dialled all the way up — Japandi calm meets sturdy, British-crafted practicality — with a private sauna and cold plunge thrown in just because. No gloss, no fuss, just natural materials and beautifully simple design.

And then there’s that view: a huge sweep of sky and rewilded land. Sit at the window with a cup of tea, or wander to the Smith & Evans vineyard, or an award-winning pub. Plan to walk a stretch of the River Parrett trail too, dog beside you, snacks in your pack because this is such a beautiful area you’ll walk for way longer than you first intend. When you return, rosy-cheeked, duck into your sauna or jump in your hot tub and watch the stars come out; very special. Built with serious sustainability credentials — carbon-neutral, BRE-audited— this is a place where nature leads but superb style follows.

Tally, Red Cabins

“I wanted to create a collection of beautifully made, low-impact places to pause – small spaces designed with the same care you’d give a home, but shaped entirely by nature. Each would have its own private sauna and cold-plunge experience built in, turning even a short stay into a retreat. We designed everything from scratch, from the soft interiors to the quiet, efficient off-grid systems. The idea was simple: no gimmicks, just a serene retreat where great design, privacy and the landscapes do the talking.” Owner, Tally

My Kip favourites

She loves
The view is the standout spectacle here – I love watching the weather roll in from miles away, and the hilltop light is incredible. Adding to the charm are the guinea fowl: curious little neighbours who roost nearby and make the sweetest cheeps.

We love
The sunken tub on deck, which can double as a cold plunge or hot tub, depending on whether you like an invigorating dip or luxurious wallow.

You may not love
No WiFi. You need to be able to light and maintain the woodburner. No TV or microwave.

  • "What an incredible place. Everything feels thoughtful and beautifully put together. We loved the wide-open views during the day and the huge, dazzling night sky after sunset - something we never see at home. The sauna made the evenings feel luxurious, and we slept better than we have in months. Thank you for giving us this peaceful bubble away from real life. We’ll definitely be returning."

Sustainability.

The cabin is part of The Red Cabin collection – a series of design-led spaces owned and managed by The Red Cabin team in collaboration with hosts. Sustainability is woven into every stage of the cabins’ life cycles. They are manufactured in-house and the builds are BRE-audited from cradle to grave, ensuring environmental responsibility from material sourcing to end-of-life. Built with airtight construction and an impressive EPC rating of B, each cabin offers exceptional energy efficiency and thermal comfort year-round. British materials and recycled content are prioritised wherever possible – everything from insulation to upholstery. This thoughtful approach reduces a carbon footprint while creating beautiful, durable spaces that respect both nature and the communities around them.

  • Start the day with a bracing plunge in your cold-dip tub then run to your sauna to hastily heat up again. Finally, breakfast alfresco; what a way to roll!
  • Wander down the hill to the River Parrett and to hike a stretch of its eponymous trail. Keep your eye out for wild herons as you go.
  • For wood-fired pizza and a pint, head to The Firehouse. Or for something more special, Holm in South Petherton is inspired by the Somerset countryside with a seasonally changing menu. Happily, they serve their sublime Westcombe cheddar fries all year round (20 mins’ drive).
  • You’re 20 mins from Glastonbury for quirky shops and its famous tor.
  • And the same from charming Langport, where there are pontoons and river beaches for wild swimming and BYO paddleboarding. The Bridge is a fantastic bakery/coffee shop right on the river, when you need to refuel.
  • Smith & Evans’ award-winning vineyard is a walk away, Burrow Hill Cider a little further. Go for tastings then buy a bottle or flagon to bring back and sip it as you drink in the enormous view here.
  • Hauser + Wirth on the edge of trendy Bruton is a brilliant contemporary and modern art gallery, with ever-changing exhibitions and glorious gardens (35 mins’ drive).
  • A 45-minute drive away, your dog will love long walks in the Blackdown, Mendip or Quantock Hills. The Blackdowns feel the most secluded, with deep valleys; the Mendips are the highest, characterised by limestone cliffs, whilst the Quantocks are our favourite, all heathlands, twisty ancient woodlands and wild ponies.
