The anti-algorithm edit: autumn edition.

The algorithm doesn’t change its clocks.

It never feels the afternoons getting shorter, never gets the urge to go quiet when it’s dark by 5, never once thinks about putting the phone in a drawer and finding a fire to sit beside instead. It’s always on, always refreshing, relentlessly summer-bright.

Which makes it an odd thing to make your autumn plans from. Because this is the season the instinct runs the other way: phone down, boots by the door, the laptop left unopened until at least Thursday.

Ask AI for a cosy autumn weekend and it’ll send you wherever it sent everyone else last October. It’s never once stood in a kitchen dripping from a wet walk while an owner handed over the kindling and told you which pub actually does the best Sunday roast. We have. That’s the difference.

So that’s what this is. An autumn edit from our small, travel-obsessed team: where we’re going as the nights draw in, and the places we already can’t wait to get back to.

Where the Kip team are staying this autumn.

Wood-fired sauna, swimming lake, yoga cabin at Architects Holiday in East Sussex.

Architects Holiday at Great Park Farm, East Sussex.

“Architects Holiday at Great Park Farm will always have a really special place in my heart, because Cabin X was actually the very first Kip hideaway I ever got to stay in. I remember arriving and just thinking it was exactly the sort of place we wanted Kip to be about – this tiny, rustic cabin hidden away by a pond, all warm timber, vintage finds and huge windows looking out into the trees. I loved it even more when the owner Will told me it had originally been his music room and the place he and his friends would hang out and have sleepovers growing up, before he came back years later as an architect and turned it into Cabin X.

Since then, Will and his childhood friend Harry have built some seriously incredible new cabins around the farm and I’m DESPERATE to go back this autumn. Bather’s Cabin is top of my list – mostly for its secret woodland roof terrace under a huge oak tree, with its own sauna, hot tub, cold plunge and outdoor bath. Getting ridiculously warm in a sauna on a blustery autumn day, then holing up in a beautiful cabin in the woods afterwards sounds pretty much perfect to me.”

Traditional farmhouse, sheep, outdoor wood-burner, outdoor bathtub and shepherds huts at Redford Farm near Ludlow.

Redford Farm, Shropshire.

“Here’s my fantasy autumn weekend – gathering a gang of girlfriends at Redford Farm, near Ludlow. I’d book the beautiful old Farmhouse, light the woodburners, open lots of wine and basically not leave the place all weekend, just hang around chatting! I love the Wellness Area, with its wood-fired sauna and cold plunge, and I’d book one of their brilliant local chefs to come in and cook us a huge feast on the Saturday night. We could take daily walks around the 12 acres to admire the autumnal trees (and clear our morning heads), but apart from that, just chill. The idea of a big house party with some lush food and a sauna thrown in feels like exactly what autumn is for.”

Floral wallpaper, wood-burner and cottage-core aesthetic at The Old Rectory Cottage on the Isle of Wight.

The Old Rectory Cottage, Isle of Wight.

I’d take the family here for a proper adventure, and half the fun is the ferry over. From the lane the cottage gives nothing away, and then you open the door into owner Debbie’s doll’s house: candy stripes, raspberry pinks, yellow gingham, a record player in the corner. It’s playful without going twee, and I just know my daughter would lose her mind over it. We’d light the wood-burner, dig out the board games, and let the kids run themselves ragged in the garden and the field beyond. Freshwater Bay and the wilder west-coast beaches are minutes away for blustery beach days to blow off some steam too.

Meadow Lodge, a rustic cabin in a wildflower meadow near Cambridgeshire.

Meadow Lodge, Cambridgeshire.

We’ve just been there for an exciting shoot with Freddie’s Flowers and it completely blew me away. It’s basically my ideal autumn set-up for a weekend with mates: someone cooking, someone on the sofa, someone at the table, chatting away with a bottle of red open and something delicious on the go. It sits beside a wildflower meadow, which at this time of year is turning the most beautiful autumn colours, with heaps of Chinese lanterns, birds overhead and muntjac running through. It’s that perfect time of year when you want a cosy jumper but can still sit outside, and their terrace is exactly where I’d want to be with a glass of wine as the sun goes down.

The interiors are spot on too – I was literally texting friends photos while I was there saying, “Can we please come and stay?” It’s so easy from London and gives you the perfect excuse for an autumn trip to Kettle’s Yard in Cambridge too. Plus, there’s a lush little farm shop called GOG about 4 minutes away – a bit like Daylesford without the pomp!

Vintage interiors and home-cooked meal at Edwardian Showman's Wagon in Herefordshire.

Edwardian Showman’s Wagon, Herefordshire.

I stayed here last November and it was the perfect autumnal weekend. We arrived after dark to home-cooked stew waiting on the hob and the log burner already crackling away. It’s full of character with dark wood panelling, velvet curtains, antique crockery and vintage lamps. What we didn’t realise until morning was how incredible the views were too – right out over fields to the Black Mountains in the distance. There was something so lovely about waking up early here, chucking another log on the fire, and watching the sunrise. And if you go, definitely make the drive to The Bull’s Head at Craswall for the best Sunday lunch.

Cosy bedroom, bathtub and autumnal garden at East Lodge in Northumberland.

East Lodge, Northumberland.

I keep coming back to East Lodge in my head: a low stone bungalow out on its own near the Northumberland coast, nothing around it but farmland. In autumn it’s the garden that does it for me – a barrel sauna and a wood-fired hot tub to sit in while the light goes, then indoors to a bedroom with its own wood-burner and a bathtub by the window. I’d spend the days out at Bamburgh, so dramatic with that huge sweep of sand under the castle, and wander back into Belford for fish and chips.
