Though this may look like something from the pages of a design magazine (because it is – hello Enki and Country Homes & Interiors), Bamboo House isn’t just a beautiful backdrop. It’s a lived-in, deeply considered home, shaped by the owners’ travels through Australia, New Zealand and Bali, where indoor-outdoor living is second nature. With soft woods, lime-plastered walls and sun-drenched spaces, the mood lands somewhere between Scandi calm and Japandi serenity. Three double bedrooms each have their own bathroom, and a sauna is heaven for warming up after surfs and sea swims.

Outside, fresh valley air, and a bamboo-fringed river where dragonflies hover. Swallows swoop and dive as dusk settles, and the stargazing is unreal. In short, it’s all utterly idyllic – but you’ll need to move fast to experience it.  The owners are exclusively welcoming Kip guests this summer, from May to September for a week at a time. Have a magazine-worthy holiday, together with all the things Jayce and Hannah love to do here: rugged coastal walks, golden beach days, surfing the waves, and enjoying the galleries and foodie spots in St Ives and Penzance. Glorious, golden times.

Getting here: drive, or train to Penzance or St Ives, then taxi (10 mins)

Owners of Riverside Hut

Jayce grew up in St Ives, and is a very keen surfer who spends a lot of his time in the sea. Hannah, originally a Geography teacher from Kent, settled in St Ives, and is passionate about food, interior design and exploring the Cornish coastline. Together, they love to travel, but also love home comforts. They’ve lived on this plot of land for 4 years, growing organic veg and flowers whilst building their dream home.

My Kip favourites

They love
“Rolling a yoga mat out on the top mezzanine to stretch in the sunshine.”

We love
The open-plan style, use of natural materials, big windows and calm, uncluttered vibe. It was carefully designed this way by Jayce and Hannah, to make them feel connected to nature at all times and nurture their wellbeing.

Min 7 nights, Sat-Sat. Additional £200 cleaning fee.  Two shepherd hut rentals on-site but the house is completely private. Not ideal for small children (see FAQ). Sorry, no pets

  • Visit the beautiful Gwynver Beach near Sennen for beach days and dreamy sunsets. Stop at Argoe in Newlyn on the way home for a delicious fresh fish supper.

  • Walk from St Ives to Zennor along a beautiful stretch of the SW Coast Path, or from Bamboo House to Zennor over the moors.
  • Palais Provisions in St Ives does the best homemade ice cream and cocktails (opposite the brilliant Barbara Hepworth Musuem).
  • Walk along St Michaels Way – an ancient pilgrimage route – to Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens, where inspiring artwork from local and international artists is set against a backdrop of exotic gardens and views of St Michael’s
  • Head to Penzance for a meal at 45 Queen Street, a bustling foodie spot in the centre of town.
  • Take a long walk around the headland on the SW Coast Path, then stop for a pint and excellent lunch at The Gurnards Head. Their beer garden is dreamy in the summer; sit and watch cows wander past.

  • Flora – on Trelowarren Estate on the Lizard Peninsula – is the most charming cafe and restaurant.

FAQs.

The owners live on site – Bamboo House is their home but over the summer they rent it and live in a cabin in in the adjacent field (separate to the Bamboo House garden). They are often here to meet guests and answer questions / point you in the direction of the best Cornish Pasty, but they are super mindful of your privacy.

Sorry, no dogs allowed, as the owners have a Cocker Spaniel. He can be a bit barky but he is harmless and doesn’t take long to stop barking and give you a tail wag!

This is often possible, and can be confirmed 48 hours before your stay.

Penzance and St Ives are each a 10-minute taxi away.

Yes, if you’re happy to supervise them at all times. There are a few areas in the garden with big drops, including a high drop to the river to the front left of the house.
