There’s something storybook about arriving at this cabin. Follow a long drive deep into acres of private woodland and eventually a little timber cabin appears beneath enormous old oak trees, hidden away in its own leafy clearing. Inside, it’s light and pretty: soft pink sofas, sage-y greens, old timber beams and vintage pieces, with huge windows framing the woods from almost every angle. There’s plenty of space to spread out, but the overall vibe is cosy – gorgeous for a couple tucked up for the weekend, or a family settling in with board games in front of the woodburner.

Throw open the doors and spill onto the deck and straight into the woods. There’s an outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven, Kadai fire bowl and BBQ, plus an alfresco bath tucked beneath the trees. Kids get a swing, mud kitchen and huge trampoline, while everyone gets 12 acres to wander and a little walking trail looping around the land – bring wellies when the muddy months arrive. Despite feeling deliciously hidden away, Battle is just 5 minutes down the road, with Hastings, St Leonards and the coast close for easy day trips.

Getting here: drive, or train to Battle then taxi (5 mins)

Saskia owner of The Hammonds Cabin

“When we first came across the cabin it was painted black inside and felt rather like a bachelor pad in the woods! But we completely fell for the magical feeling of driving down the long track and finding this secret little cabin among the trees, so we jumped in and bought it. We have gradually softened and lightened everything inside while keeping that lovely feeling of being tucked away in the woods.” Owner, Saskia

She loves
“The enormous oak trees sheltering the cabin. It feels very secluded and fairytale like, but you’re so close to beaches and great towns.”

We love
The little loop around the site – long enough for a pre-breakfast wander or easy afternoon walk without having to go anywhere.

Rates don’t include the cleaning fee, or use of kids’ beds – see FAQ. To get to the bathroom you need to walk past the cabin bed (curtained for privacy). You’re in the woods and may see wildlife & insects.

  • "We loved staying here- we had a really special short holiday with our two young boys. The space, wilderness, swings and x-large trampoline were the stuff of dreams for them! The cabin is beautifully decorated, the beds were super comfy and star-gazing on the porch at night was perfect. The outdoor bath was a highlight for everyone! The surrounding area offers loads of interest - Hastings, Rye, Battle Abbey, Camber sands etc etc! HIGHLY recommend. Thank you so much!"
