“We discovered Redford almost by accident in 2009. Living and working in Bristol, we’d been looking for a new adventure and somewhere we could raise our young family in the countryside, while creating a small hospitality business alongside it. It’s hard to believe it now, but we spent 2 years living in a static caravan and restoring the farmhouse before we could finally move in. The barns came next – a slow project to preserve their agricultural character while turning them into places for guests to stay – and finally, we added the shepherd’s huts. Now, after 15 years and bringing up our daughters here, we’re moving onto our next adventure and, for the first time, have added our much-loved farmhouse to the rental mix too. It means guests can experience more of Redford than ever – and for us, that’s really the point: this is somewhere for families and friends to gather, roam and make their own memories, in a place that holds so many of ours.” Owners Jude and Rupert
They love
“The sense of history in the farmhouse. After 450 years, you can still see its beginnings: old beams, mullion windows, an original bread oven and an enormous inglenook fireplace . We’ve always loved the feeling that we’re just one chapter in its story.”
We love
The vintage details: reclaimed chapel pew seating, apple crates as bedside tables, old milk churns repurposed as bar stools and Framed Enid Blyton book plates.

Surrounds.
- Go hungry to Ludlow, just 8 miles away. It has an incredible concentration of good food, independent shops and handsome old buildings. Market days are particularly good for a potter.
- Whitcliffe Common Nature Reserve rises above the River Teme with fabulous views back across Ludlow to the Clee Hills; drop down afterwards for lunch beside the river at CSONS, where the menu follows whatever local growers and producers have that day.
- For a proper country pub, Bennetts End Inn in nearby Knowbury dates back to 1640. There are also 2 pubs reachable from Redford on foot across fields and country lanes – ask Jude for the route.
- For picnic supplies, raid Ludlow’s delis and market stalls – then add cakes from one of its excellent bakeries. If you’d rather someone else sorted lunch, The Blue Boar is a sensitively restored old pub moments from the castle, while Charlton Arms Hotel sits right beside the Teme and is a good shout for a long lunch.
- Mortimer Forest‘s thousand hectares are threaded with walking, cycling and bridleway trails. If you’re lucky you might spot the resident long-haired fallow deer.
- The River Teme has wild-swimming spots around Ludlow; combine a dip near Dinham Weir with a wander along the river afterwards.
- Pizza night? SourCed Pizza makes sourdough pizzas using British and local ingredients. Easy, unfussy and exactly what you want after a day outside.
- Save a half-day for Ludlow Castle. It’s one of England’s finest medieval ruins and sits slap-bang in the middle of town, so history can segue very easily into coffee, antiques and lunch. For a bigger expedition, Stokesay Castle, Berrington Hall and the extraordinary ruins of Witley Court are all within striking distance.
