*Brand new*
After a day exploring the myriad trails of the hiking country beyond the front door – the intrepid might reach as far as Hadrian’s Wall – kick off your boots and relax into quintessential English luxury. Drink tea by the pea-green Aga in the kitchen, loll in the tub in the midnight-blue bathroom, then sink into the plump cushions of the window seat and gaze out at the scrubbed moorland beyond the glass. Summertime lends itself to iced G&Ts and croquet on the lawn as the sun sets, while hot chocolates by the log burner are the order of the day in cooler months.

The cottage adjoins the owners’ family house, and they are impeccable hosts. Nothing is too much trouble, whether picking guests up from Darlington, arranging bikes to borrow, or offering freshly harvested greens from their veggie patch. As gallery curators by profession, the house is a beautifully appointed melange of vintage and modern décor, accented with contemporary works by up-and-coming artists. With 2 bedrooms, plenty of board games, and a warm welcome to dogs, it’s the perfect countryside retreat for friends or family.

Getting here: best to drive though the owners can collect from Durham (50 mins), Newcastle (50 mins) & Darlington (1hr)

Jack and Lizzie, owners of Beaumont Cottage

“We have a gallery and art fair in London. Lizzie is originally from the North East and we decided when having children to relocate to this new area. We are trying to create a contemporary art space with artists residencies and curating in the home, and we are seeing this narrative through to our rental cottage.” Owners, Lizzie and Jack

  • “We had a lovely wedding anniversary break in the cottage and enjoyed exploring the local area, the High Force waterfall being our highlight. Thank you for the gift of the coffee and beers. The bath towels/sheets were awesome! The biggest we have ever had in many stays in similar rental properties.”

  • “We've had such a great weekend, thank you so much! Such a gorgeous cottage and the location has been perfect - far enough away to feel like we've truly escaped, but close enough to things should we need them. It really has been a brilliant weekend. Highlights were the amazing bathtub, the views from the windows, how much space there is and the walks straight from the doorstep.”

  • “We had a lovely time and the cottage really is beautiful. This was our first time using Kip, in comparison to other cottages we’ve stayed in I really think you’ve thought about pretty much everything. Having some essentials on hand such as salt & pepper, olive oil and good coffee and tea along with paper towels and tissues really made a difference. We enjoyed playing some of the board games and you had a nice selection of books to read. Your recommendations for days out and places to eat were also really helpful... We visited Killhope Mining Museum which was a big hit; the Bowes Museum; Raby Castle and finished with a visit to the Highforce Waterfall with another great meal in the hotel on our way home. We really have had an enjoyable break and would definitely recommend the cottage to others. You’ve done a great job of renovating it whilst maintaining the character.”

  • “We have returned for numerous weekend breaks and short vacations following our first visit as the cottage offers us both charm, luxury and a beautifully designed space where we can easily relax. We appreciate all the added touches Lizzie has thought of (flowers, bathroom products as well as real coffee and tea) which welcomed our arrival. The cottage is situated in an area of truly outstanding beauty with breathtaking views, country walks and culture in the historic nearby towns of Hexham & Corbridge. We would highly recommend anyone to stay.”
