Tucked away in the South Downs, Titch Hill offers that lovely combo of remote-yet-brilliantly-placed for getting about. Brighton’s buzz, Arundel’s antiques, Worthing’s foodie scene and long beaches are all within easy reach, yet here it’s all wide skies and the gentle rhythm of life on the land. Part small-batch winery, part working farm, everything is rooted in the landscape that surrounds it, rows of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir curling across chalky slopes. Footpaths lead straight from the door towards Cissbury Ring and the South Downs Way; later firepit evenings and dark skies await; perhaps with a bottle of homegrown wine as the light disappears across the fields.

The stays themselves feel beautifully grounded, too. Yurts tucked into private woodland glades, with proper bathrooms and stargazing roofs; the Downs Barn, with its huge views across open fields. Interiors are simple yet considered – striped linens, soft lighting, good coffee – and all around wildflowers buzz with bees and butterflies. It’s peaceful in the truest sense here: not silent, simply alive with birdsong and gentle breezes instead of tech. And the icing on the cake? A great price.

Getting here: drive, or train to Worthing then taxi (10 mins)

“Titch Hill grew gradually from our desire to share this incredible landscape with others. Set within Alex’s family farm on the Sompting Estate, the land had been farmed for generations before we began slowly reshaping it with a more regenerative, nature-first approach – planting vineyards across the chalk slopes, restoring wildlife habitats and opening up peaceful places for guests to stay among the fields and woodland. What started with a small B&B has evolved into a small collection of yurts and the Downs Barn, all thoughtfully designed to reflect the slower, grounded pace of life here on the South Downs.” Josie and Alex

They love
“The feeling of slowing down that naturally happens here. Waking up to birdsong, watching the light change across the vineyard across the day, then sitting under the stars at night. There’s always wildlife close by – hares and bunnies racing across the fields, butterflies moving through the vines, pheasants wandering past – and it acts as little reminders that you’re sharing the landscape with nature.”

We love
The copper-pod bathrooms attached to the yurts, with a walk-in shower, flushing toilet and glass dome ceiling. So imaginative, and makes them feel far more luxe than your average yurt.

It’s a short drive to foodie pubs & restaurants. The yurts are only open April-October. Yurts are approx 100m apart and there are 2 others on-site.

  • "We had an amazing stay! Alex and Josie were so accommodating, and the welcome hamper and fresh flowers made our stay feel extra special. The yurts are so clean, spacious and well fitted out, it was such a luxurious stay. The bathroom was a really fun feature. There are footpaths right from the door and the views over Worthing to the ocean during the sunset are well-worth the walk. We loved learning about the vineyard and trying the wine and we even bought some to take home with us. We hope we'll come back to visit again soon."

  • “We had the most wonderful stay with you guys. You were both so welcoming and helpful. We loved the yurt and felt at home straight away, it was so peaceful and relaxing but we were also able to pop down to the beach and have some seaside fun as well. It was just what we both needed. We will definitely be coming to stay again (hopefully later in the year). Obviously it is better to have a car and the experience is probably enhanced when you are able to drive but we were lucky with the weather and enjoyed the long walks down to the seaside. This felt like a really special staycation.”

  • "We have just returned from a stay in a fantastic converted barn in Sussex. The barn was beautifully appointed, secluded yet close to beautiful villages and the coast. Our hosts couldn’t do enough to make our stay a success. Overall a wonderful trip."

Surrounds.

  • Yard by Hand is an excellent local taproom, with small-batch beers and rotating food pop-ups. Just 1.5 miles from your door, it’s low-key (and very easy to settle into for the evening).
  • Walk straight from the door onto the South Downs Way, all rolling chalk hills and huge sea views unfolding as you climb towards Cissbury Ring and Chanctonbury Ring.
  • Or head to Devil’s Dyke – one of the South Downs’ most dramatic walking routes, thanks to its sweeping ridgelines and far-reaching coastal views.
  • Book dinner at Tern in Worthing: seasonal small plates and natural wine. Or go for a long lunch at CrabShack on the seafront – Sussex crab, cold white wine and ocean views feel well deserved after a morning on the Downs.
  • Hire paddleboards or try windsurfing at Hove Lagoon.
  • You may be able to do a tour and tasting of Titch Hill’s winery when you stay – the chalky soils and coastal air shape the wines growing right outside your door (see FAQ).
  • Walk 3.5 miles over the hills to The Gun Inn in Findon, a centuries-old pubs with excellent Sunday roasts.
  • Drive over to Arundel for antique shops, riverside walks and coffee-and-bookshop mooching beneath the castle walls.
  • Bring bikes and cycle the old railway route between Shoreham and Bramber, passing riverbanks, castle ruins and wide floodplains filled with birdlife.
  • Hop on the train into Brighton & Hove for vintage shopping in the North Laine and fresh oysters.
