The owners are originally Welsh, and moved back here after years in London; Daniel is a cellist and Jemma is a jeweller (Slade Fine Jewellery). Before their immaculate restoration, the cottage was a cowshed.

“It is very quiet here, with loads of wildlife because of our very wild gardens. Owls hoot in the trees, and one guest found an otter at the bedroom door! There are plenty of walks from the doorstep, and the rolltop bath is perfect for lazing in afterwards, with a cup of tea or glass of wine.” Owner, Daniel

You may not love
The owners live next door (30m) with 4 young kids, a dog, cat and horse, but the cottage has its own rear garden. Access here is via a mile-long, very bumpy track. It’s a 30-min walk to pubs and shops.
Sustainability.
EV charger on site. Eco paints and lime render were used in the renovation, there are solar panels and a rainwater harvester, and the owners use eco companies for banking, telecoms and electricity.

Locale
- Take the meandering woodland walk into Newport (45 mins). There’s a 12thC Norman Castle, you can rummage for antiques in the Carningli Centre and The Newport Collective showcases local artists.
- Food lovers are spoilt for choice around here: we recommend coffee and cake at Pwnc or lunch at Tides Kitchen & Wine Bar. Pubwise, The Golden Lion is the best. If you’re eating in, pick up a bottle from local wine bar Feral Pig Wines.
- Cycle the coastal path to Traeth Llyfn cove. Backed by cliffs and sprinkled with rock pools, it’s a tricky-to-get-down-to gem, so there’s a high chance you’ll have it all to yourself. Refuel with fish and chips at The Shed in Porthgain, and end with drinks and beautiful views at The Old Sailors on Pwllgwaelod beach.
- Behind the cottage you’ll find the Preseli Hills, great for hiking, horse riding, views and beer! To taste the refreshing local amber ale, there’s no better place than the Dyffryn Arms.
- St David’s on the westernmost tip is another must-visit (Europe’s smallest city), as is pretty Fishguard. Swing by Dyffryn Fernant gardens from the latter – a riot of colourful inspiration.

Small dogs allowed, subject to £50 fee
The nearest train stations are Clunderwen or Fishguard Harbour. There are excellent local taxi links who can pick you up for a small charge and you can spend your holiday hiding away or walking in the hills. There are also good local bus links.
A starter supply of logs, and a starter hamper containing milk, bread, and butter, coffee, tea and jam.
