Tucked away in the heart of the Old Town, this beautifully restored Georgian house is infused with calm and creativity. Just a short stroll from the indie galleries, cafes and vintage shops of the Arts & Cultural Quarter, the 2-bedroom retreat blends clean, Japandi-inspired interiors with tactile textures and original artworks. The owner, a Yorkshire-born artist and former musician, moved back from London to set up the adjacent Mēkā gallery, and this cottage acts as its extension, with most of the artworks on your walls for sale.

Beyond the cottage, you’re minutes from golden beaches, dramatic cliffs and wild nature walks. Spot puffins and gannets at Bempton RSPB; visit seals at the Flamborough colony, and swim in the calm shallows of Fraisthorpe Beach. Nearby you’ll find seafood restaurants and fireside pubs to round off each day — or head to C.R.E.A.M for smash burgers and cocktails. An utterly unique base for anyone craving coastal calm with a cultural twist.

Getting here: drive, or train to Bridlington then taxi (5 mins)

“I’m an artist and professional musician originally from Yorkshire. I was based in London but have relocated back to the stunning Yorkshire coast to create a collection of boutique spaces, anchored by the Mēkā gallery. Many of the furnishings are bespoke and handmade, inspired by my time in both Japan and Scandinavia.”Owner, Jake

He loves
“Letting the peace of the space envelop you; book our reiki treatments or an Indian head massage for ultimate relaxation.”

We love
The curation of original artworks, and the location — in the heart of where you want to be, but hidden away.

Local eateries tend to open Thurs-Sun only. The beds cannot be twinned. Won’t suit those with mobility issues; steps to the front door, and upstairs bedrooms.

  • "The Cottage at Meka is a contemporary stay in the heart of the old town of Bridlington, an area that feels modern, creative and the beginning of its modern lifestyle movement. We really enjoyed the interior space, its art and amenities. We would recommend booking any restaurants in the area so as not to be disappointed. Nothing nicer than open fires and local food and ales hunkered down in ‘The Board Inn’. Jake was a great host, on hand if needed. Loved it."

  • "We loved it! Very thoughtfully and tastefully furnished, in the wonder old town of Bridlington near to all our favourite restaurants and cafes and vintage treasure troves. As soon as we got there we felt right at home and the host had left us amazing cakes from our favourite vegan bakery, we stepped across the road to buy coffee from the fab cafe and the holiday began in real style. We saw the seals at Flamborough head and picked up lots of great vinyl and trinkets in the many vintage and charity stores, walks on the beach and meals out, but we stayed in too and cooked and played cards in the cosy and stylish kitchen. We will be back. A much needed break for a busy family. Thank you so much!"

Surrounds.

  • The Old Town is always a beautiful time warp and a good coffee is available 7 days a week across the street. Best followed by a browse in Mēkā gallery.
  • Excellent local eateries include vegan hotspot The Nut & Nettle, The Old Lifeboat Station for fresh seafood, and charcuterie platters at The Board Inn.
  • You’re 3 miles from Bridlington’s golden coastline. Visit natural wonders like Flamborough Head’s seal colony and the RSPB reserve at Bempton, where cliff balconies offer views of puffins and gannets. Sunsets here are epic, too.
  • Walk on the sand and swim in the calm shallows of Fraisthorpe beach (parking and great refreshments at The Cow Shed). Dog friendly, too.
  • Dane’s Dyke nature reserve is a magical location to watch the moon rise over the sea.
  • Walk a stretch of the Yorkshire Wolds Way (famously painted by Hockney during his time living in Bridlington). The trail winds over low, rolling hills, along chalk downs and into serene valleys all the to the coast.
  • Set sail on The Yorkshire Belle, which glides up the coast from Bridlington Harbour.
