Turn off the main road near Ross-on-Wye and keep going until your shoulders drop and your phone signal gives up — that’s when you know you’re close. This trio of unique eco cabins sit on a 4th-generation family farm, where dairy cows graze, birds chat and the River Wye meanders through the fields to a secret pebble beach. Dip in for wild swims, skim stones, or paddleboard straight from this private access point (a little smug that everyone else will be queuing at Symonds Yat). Afterwards, warm up in your wood-fired hot tub or stretch out by your firepit; ah, this is the life.

Each cabin is different architecturally, but minimalist Scandi calm runs throughout: blonde and black woods, low beds with soft neutral linens, a hidden library of favourite books, a pot plant or 2. Dogs are not just tolerated, but wholeheartedly welcomed, and will love adventures on the Wye Valley Walk then snoozing by your woodburner. With views that sweep across the valley and nothing but peace for company, this is a perfect place to hole up for a few days — and to dip in and out of Hereforshire’s brilliant foodie scene.

Getting here: drive, or train to Ledbury or Hereford then taxi (20 mins)

“This is our family farm, which is still run by my father, who looks after its 150 dairy cows. My wife Claudia and I set up the hospitality side of the farm whilst living in London; we were always escaping here to refresh and reset so wanted to be able to offer the same to others.” Owner, Rich

They love
“The peace, quiet and huge views over the Wye Valley.”

We love
The individual touches in each: Hare’s cold plunge, Pheasant’s quirky tiles and lovely outdoor area; Fox’s cool exterior.

You may not love
No WiFi. You’ll need to drive to shops & restaurants but there’s a pub a mile away.

  • "Beautiful and peaceful cabin. Had everything we needed and more and very clear instructions from the host and in the cabin. We had a great time and would definitely stay again!"

  • The secret pebble beach is just a 5-minute stroll from your cabin for wild swims, paddling and stone-skimming. It’s private to the farm, so you’ll often have the river to yourselves.
  • Hire paddleboards to explore this calm stretch of river, blissfully crowd-free compared to Symonds Yat. Drift past meadows and woodland in total tranquillity, with just birds and big skies for company.
  • You can also fish for trout and barbel here or head for the croy in deeper water for chub, roach, dace, pike, grayling and salmon.
  • Go on an edible treasure hunt with a foraging expert, around the farmland, riverbanks, meadows and woodland. She’ll help you find, identify and prepare wild foliage, fungi, fruits, herbs and vegetables. Or book a massage in your cabin with a local therapist.
  • Further afield, Rich’s favourite thing to do is hire canoes and float down the River Wye. Stop for a riverside picnic en route and finish at The New Harp Inn or the Hope and Anchor for a well-earned pint.
  • This is a real foodie area, with brilliant indie spots in nearby Hereford such as Beefy Boys (award-winning burgers), Under The Nut Tree (local menu, cooked over BBQs) and The Yard (brilliant Sunday roasts).
  • Bring hiking boots to join the Wye Valley Walk, which runs right past the cabins and has epic views. Or just stroll to How Caple Church, a beautiful village gem.
  • Ledbury is a photographer’s dream, with its 17thC cobbled streets and jumble of medieval and Tudor architecture, including black and white timber-frame buildings.
  • Sex Education fan? Otis’s iconic clifftop red house is just a short drive away; head to Symonds Yat and walk up to Yat Rock for the best spotting opportunities. Even non-fans will love the epic panorama (and spotting peregerine falcons gliding on the thermals, if you’re lucky).
